“Served its purpose but overpriced and cleanliness needs improving”
The check in process and staff who managed it were very friendly and patient. As other reviews note, it is in a very central location which was very handy.
The shower leaked from a corner which was particularly inconvenient considering it is in the bedroom. The decor of the rooms were very dated which is fine however the towels were dirty, there was mould on the ceiling and the walls were dusty. It served its purpose, however €77 for the night was very overpriced for what it is.
“Cons: I stayed in Akelarre Ostatua on 29th of June for one night. At 2 am I found a bed bug on my bed and unfortunately I couldn’t reach the employee at this time which made me stay in the room overnight. I reported the issue and was offered a refund for a room, however when I asked for a reimbursement for my laundry costs (83€ - down jacket (22€), sleeping bag (24€) trekking backpack (29€), clothes (9€), which I was forced to cover due to finding bed bugs in the room and having to stay there overnight (which means the bed bugs could have transferred to my clothes, backpack and sleeping bag), I heard that my laundry costs are unacceptable and that „bed bugs are a problem when making the road” and now they as a property „also have to cover the costs of disinfecting the room”. Bed bugs do occur in hotel industry indeed, however I must admit that I am disappointed with the quality of the service, suggestion that I am exaggerating the costs and the final denial. Regarding the refund for the room, I did not receive it until August 2nd. The property says a refund has been issued and the booking.com keeps informing me that the property has stopped responding to the refund claims. When I asked the property about it, the answer I got was „The problem isn't ours. Greetings!””

“Difficulty in contacting this properly.”
I could not contact the properly. I'd lost the access code and couldn't react the accommodation Hosts. It was very stressful, I'd walked 30kms and I was so tired, hungry and didn't know where I would sleep that night. I phoned them on numbers on web and booking.com, I WhatsApp text and called several times, I sent messages via bookings.com. The Tourist Office staff and the owner of the property next door to the Akelarre called them. In the end, the owner of the property next door managed to get a reply from them at 22.30pm. I'd been outside the door since 15.30pm. It was very stressful.

“Easy to find and great location”
First 3xperience with no reception. Codes were timely. Bag delivery & retrieval were xcellent
