“Old and NOISY”
The host is fantastic, a very polite and pleasant old man. I am sorry that this review is negative, but it is the truth about the apartment. If I was to rate the host I would give him a 10+ He offered cold beer and all the necessary things to have a good time.
But the apartment has some major issues. Everything inside is old, dated. In the photos it's not so clear but when you enter it's like going back in time 20 years. Unfortunately it was not very clean also, dust and hair from the other guests was present. The sound insulation of the apartment is Simply terrible. You can hear what your neighbours are talking and maaaan the Spanish people like talking until 1:00 in the night and also kids are active until at least midnight. It's a block of flats with locals I think and we were also unlucky to get construction work in the morning that started at 8:00. They were literally breaking walls... So yeah, not much sleep for us in this city.
“A superb apartment, close to everything, with only tiny niggles to make it truly perfect.”
The apartment is in the Zapillo beach area of Almeria. It's location, mere steps from the beach, supermarket, restaurants and more was perfect for us. The owners are easily contacted on Whatsapp and the Booking web pages, as we'd asked a couple of questions before we arrived. They are a wonderful and very accommodating couple, with a few free bonuses in the apartment from beers to biscuits, milk and coffee. Their English was good, and far better than our limited Spanish. There's an air conditioning unit in both bedrooms and the lounge. The bedrooms are both double beds and en-suite, with showers, toilets and sinks. The bigger bedroom has a comfier bed with a mattress topper. The slightly smaller room had a slightly tired mattress, but I still slept well. The little internal courtyard houses the washing machine and a few washing lines to help refresh clothes. This ensured we brought very little and washed clothes every other day. The kitchen is well stocked, with pans, cuttlery and plates, but only 2 small cups. The lounge has a futon sofa bed, so 6 people could comfortably stay here. There's a dining table a 4 comfy chairs. The TV has lots of channels and the aircon unit is welcome. Apart from a tiny lip at the front door, as the apartment is on the ground floor, it would be fairly accessible to most people with limited movement. Finally, we had a late flight back and the lovely owners stored our luggage while we enjoyed our last day. Overall, this is a fab apartment with only minor improvements it would be trully excellent.
Tiny niggles, and nothing that spoiled the holiday at all. The smaller bedroom mattress could do with a mattress topper to improve it's comfort. It's also adjacent to an internal corridor of the apartment block which has regular foot traffic and an automatic light. So, it can get a little distracting with people chatting as they come home late into the evening or leave for work in the morning. The blinds do close, but it doesn't stop all the light. The 2nd bedroom has a "hidden" door behind some book cases and the noise from the corridor is noticable. I would suggest hanging a thick curtain or something over the "hidden" door to hopefully lower the noise from the corridor. The limited number of cups was not a problem for us, but having only 2 could be a problem if more people stayed. Personally, we also like a nice mug sized cup rather than the smaller coffee sized cups, but that's us. There's no kettle - this is Spain & they're a coffee drinking nation. You do get a hob percolator for the coffee, and we simply filled a small pan to make a cup of tea to have with the free biscuits.
