we forgot to check for aircon when we booked but the host provided a fan when asked. The host refused to tell us the key until we filled in the required Government check in information for all the parties but the online forms don't work for adding all the names in end the host asked us to send a whatsapp photo of the passport and he filled it in which we thought was a better idea. Also a kettle would be a good idea.

Power went off many times. Host did not answer the telephone number listed on Booking.com (he did respond to messages). After the third time the power went off (the same afternoon) I contacted booking.com which enraged the owner and he subsequently threatened me. I was very shaken by this and would not recommend anyone stay here. Booking.com has yet to tell me the result of their investigation. In addition to the power issues, the WiFi is slow and the kitchen is ill-equipped.

“Great spot for access to amazing natural beauty…”

The best

Great access to the Picos of Europe and adjacent to a nice little town Carao. There’s a good restaurant there. Try the cheese board. This is a perfectly good launching pad for your hiking adventures. It’s a very well constructed building, everything works (with a washer with no dryer so plan to use the drying rack which works just fine) and most things are on hand. You can go into town to the little general store and get your coffee and milk, tea, snacks and wine, etc. The owner is like character from a movie, she’s very nice and officious and you’ll likely find the older men in town drinking some wine and talking about the weather. This is a very nice spot. See my one caveat though.

I don’t think this is the owners fault of our unit #8 but they do smoke in this building. It’s obvious that the unit we had was not a smoking unit and although folks can sit out front and smoke, some clearly smoke inside in other units and it wafts up to the top units. Deal breaker? I detest cigarette smoke but as a Californian, we live pretty much a smoke free world (public smoking is taboo) - and it’s not taboo in Europe by any means (it befuddles us American travelers but, so be it). I wouldn’t want the owner of this apartment to lose any business by pointing this out by any means - and they responded assured me they’d investigate it but there’s only so much they can. So, on the whole, this was a terrific place to stay. And the parking is very easy.
