Sleeping in a bed rather than a bunk

I was charged a late check-in fee for arriving around 8pm which I think is utterly ridiculous! In all my 20 years of travelling I have never been charged a late check-in fee for arriving before 11pm. This effectively doubled the price of my room. I could have stayed in a hotel for this price. Although the property will say that they emailed me to advise (cover their backs) about the late check-in fee, I was on a ferry without internet access and was not aware of their policy. If I had known I would have cancelled my booking and found a more traveller friendly place to stay. I think their policy is very unfair

“Short stay is ok”
The best

It’s not bunk bed very good to sleep. Quite. Air conditioning is strong. You can storage luggage after check out free of charge

To be improved

Bathroom is not clean and air ventilation is not good

“Unclean, unfriendly and unsociable”

We had no running water, and the hosts did nothing to resolve this for us - at a minimum, I would expect us to be given water bottles and access to a nearby toilet/shower given the outage was for at least 12 hours (it was not resolved before I checked out). I had to go to a cafe downstairs and purchase some items to use a toilet. I understand this issue was a once-off but I still think they should have done more given water is a basic necessity. There was also a lot of black mould in one of the showers which is disgusting and needs to be fixed before this area should be used. The people working here were very unfriendly and there was only one staff member who spoke English which is surprising for a hostel and made it difficult to check in and understand what was going on with the above mentioned water outage. As a solo traveler, there was no vibe to this place either or activities to meet others such as shared breakfast, walking tours and that kind of thing so I wouldn’t recommend it.

“I would definitely not recommend this hostel”
The best

The location was good and the kitchen was ok for those that want to cook. They could use some clean / new pans, but that is an issue at most hostels where guests don't clean things properly.

To be improved

I paid for a private room, but the wifi did not work in my work. They claimed there were no issues with the wifi and it must be a problem with my phone, laptop and tablet. They said no one else complained, but when I talked to 3 other people, they confirmed the wifi in their rooms was either very poor or non-existent. Hostel staff suggested I could just work in the common areas if I needed wifi, which, despite paying extra for a private room, was forced to do for 5 days. The common areas are not very comfortable and are warm in summer.

It's in a good location.

To be improved

It's one of the worst experiences I've had. I stayed four nights; the last night, I slept outside. The room's smell is horrible; there are bed bugs everywhere, and they didn't want to change our rooms even when we asked. Cherry on top, the bathrooms are so hot you can't stay there.
