AS Palau dels Alemanys

First of all, I want to alert everyone that this is a family hotel. They don't have a 24 hour concierge or anything like that. What they do have is the most amazing building with the nicest guy running the place. We arrived around 10:30 p.m. or as they say in Europe, 22:30. No one was there so I was a bit confused as to how to reach the guy. Luckily I had informed him (and if you're running late, you should give him a heads up) that we were running late. He was out in the neighborhood and came to us in a few. I was totally agog when he showed us the place. The pictures don't lie. Most hotel pictures show you pics of their best rooms while you end up in an inferior room Not this place! And because they don't have staff, the lobby has an open bar! As in free (or at least in the winter when we were there - summer crowds may be different). You just go in and help yourself to a stiff martini. And there is the cutest kitchen included in the room! I told the guy that I have some nieces that I want him to meet because I want to be his aunt! And of course, as his aunt, I'll always make sure that they reserve a room for me. Totally worth going to Girona, just to stay in this place.... and oh yes, Girona is a fabulous place to sightsee and to eat well (amazing restaurants - plus with the kitchnette, you can reheat the leftovers!!). They filmed Season 6 (?) of Game of Thrones there too, if that helps you seal the deal.

This hotel is incredible! The room was an entire floor of a beautifully refurbished old building, and combines modern amenities with historical charm. It far exceeded my expectations, which were already high given the great reviews from past guests. I hope to come back sometime soon!
