“Appalling treatment by Booking.com AND B-Rent Corralego apartamentos”

We booked this accommodation, but the day before arrival, we received a text message by Kiara Booking Account Manager at B-Rent Corralego apartamentos, that our room was not available due to an issue. Kiara messaged the following, "we reserved for you a nice apartment in San Valentin complex, no extra payment and same services". We were already abroad and had no time to consider any alternatives, and therefore felt obliged to accept. Also advised that all would be arranged for us and we need not involve Booking.com After all, the offer was , "no extra payment and same services", so we had every confidence that we would get accommodation at the same standard we had booked.

To be improved

The alternative accommodation "Valentin", was awful, damp, disused toilet smell and filthy dirty. We thought it odd that the contact who met us at the apartment went in ahead of us to immediately open a window (to clear the bad smell). We have sent numerous photos to Booking.com showing the disgusting state of the accommodation, but they have ignored us passing the blame onto the accommodation hosts who are also ignoring us. Look at the filthy shower, old dirty floor, the complex itself was rundown, neglected, no staff on site, no food facilities, dirty several boarded up rooms including the room next to ours. Disgusting! Booking.com are supposed to be professional and reliable, this clearly is not the case. We booked through Booking.com it is up to both parties - being yourselves and Booking.com to keep your customers happy and provide the service they expect. Therefore provide a full refund!!!! Avoid B-Rent Corralejo apartamentos and DO NOT STAY AT VALENTIN complex!!!! We trusted Booking.com and it's carefully selected agents. How wrong we were.

The best

The apartment was lovely, light, and well furnished with plenty of storage space. It was in a good position for the beach, the main strip and El Campanario. I also liked that it is a gated complex as it felt safer for a solo traveller.

To be improved

The pool area is lovely but the pool could do with draining and repainting. The sun beds could do with replacing as they 'sag' in the middle. There was an odd smell (probably drainage related) in the bathroom at times and far too much crammed into a small space making it tight to move around. Also the shower needs looking at as it dripped constantly. That was the only downside to the actual apartment itself.
