Barceló Costa Ballena Golf & Spa

Went on a golfing trip to Costa Ballena in late march of 2026 - and loved it. The hotel is located next to the golf course and our room had a beautiful view over the course. Its staff was very helpful, considerate and welcoming, our room spacious, clean and comfortable and our stay excellent on the whole. I would highly recommend Barceló Costa Ballena to anyone...anytime! A great stay, a great experience!

I understand that it was February, but the hotel was really not welcoming. The weather was nice, but there was not really any table and chairs outside apart a few in front the main area. The swimming pool was closed, what it's normal for February, but with a fence around it. It really looks terrible! At some point, it was sunny and I wanted to work outside, there was not table and chair near our bedroom where the wifi signal was good, so we had to choice that going where we can find some table and chairs outside the bar and the reception area, where the wifi signal was very inconsistant. I can see on my laptop that there was another wifi signal for the events, that one appeared to be strong and good. I asked to the reception if there was a way for them to give me the code as the general wifi was not keeping cutting and I can't sit near our bedroom where there was not table and chair outside, the person at the reception replied frankly: NO, it's not possible. I was not happy and he told me he was going to ask his manager. I came back 10 mins later, nothing, it was clear that he didn't ask... I expressed very clearly how I was disappointed not necessary about the weak wifi signal, but more about the fact that the staff at the reception was clearly ignoring us, they even didn't pretend. I was told that someone from management will get back to us, we left the following day and nobody came back to us. Extremely disappointed. Also, if you've got children, it's not a family hotel, there is a small slide and a couple of swings at the very end of the hotel, with nowhere to sit for the parents. There is not really an access from the bedrooms to the swimming pool other than through the main reception area, not great when you are wet. Anyway, it didn't apply to us as the swimming pools were closed, but in Summer time, it wouldn't have been great!

Disappointed Stay – Won’t Be Returning The hotel and facilities were very good – clean, comfortable rooms and generally well-maintained surroundings. However, the experience was let down severely by the food and service. We were on a half-board basis, and to say the food was dreadful would be an understatement. It was bland, often cold, and incredibly underwhelming. Shockingly, there was even a microwave provided – presumably for guests to reheat their meals, which says it all. Equally disappointing was the attitude of the staff. Many seemed sullen, unapproachable, and uninterested in engaging with guests, which only added to the negative experience. Sadly, this visit fell far short of expectations, and I won’t be returning.

The hotel rooms are average, buffet food is basic and not correct temperature little offering for vegetarians.

Our family of 3 has been visiting Barceló Costa Ballena every summer for the past 8 years. We absolutely love it here! The hotel is clean, modern and perfect for our needs. The food is varied and delicious and there is always something for everyone. The amenities are great with 2 pools, a relaxing spa and a small gym. The location is perfect. It is located in a small, quiet town and a short walk or bike ride from a beautiful beach. The nightly entertainment and pool parties are lots of fun. Many families come again and again and my son has a nice group of "hotel buddies". But, the most special part of the hotel is absolutely the staff. They go out of their way to make us feel welcome and honestly, after all these years treat, us like family. Aníbal is an absolute treasure. He and his entertainment team are so much fun and they make each and every visit joyful and unforgettable. It's always so hard to leave, but we are already looking forward to next year!
