“h2”
quite difficult to find this place, we had booked it for a one night stay over on our journey. the sign from the road was giving a different hotel name and only once we had passed the turning did we see that this was the hotel we were looking for. the room was basic, but pretty clean. it had a huge window which was great because it was a boiling hot day. we needed the put up bed, which was just a little camp bed in the corner of the room, was is fine, but we sat on it to find that the frame had no slats to hold up the mattress and we ended up on the floor - very funny!!! we told the lady at reception and within an hour, the frame was replaced and a good nights sleep was had! not very well staffed, the lady there, did the reception, bar, kitchen, room service etc etc. but even though she was run off her feet she was quite friendly although got grumpier throughout the evening. when we had booked the room the information had advised they had 24 hr restaurant / room service available, this wasn't to be the case. but we did stop some café menus in the reception area and the lady eventually agreed to warm us a couple of pizzas up which we ate in our room. the shower was great and as advertised. the hotel was quite far from anything, so you would probably need a car if you wanted to get out and about. although there did seem to be some tourist sites and bus service information in the reception. the car park is large and there is a patio area and childrens play area, but it did all look quite neglected, but was fine to sit out for an hour. cheap and cheerful really!!!
“breakdown stop over”
very nice hotel, staff exellent. rooms good. a bit far if you have no transport. we broke down vehicle in garage. had to use taxis. food very good, would stay again, as long I have transport. very good value for money
“out of the way but quiet”
The first problem is to find the hotel. You only have small signs with a symbol of a hotel to guide you. The sign showing Hotel Los Fresnos, the hotel which was bought by the H2 chain, can only be seen once you have passed the hotel, and the next exit to come back is 5 km away. It is amazing that a large group like Hotusa, which owns H2, does not change the sign of the previous hotel even after several years of operation. Very poor business sense to say the least. The rooms are spacious and have wooden floors. In our room, number 117, there was a strong smell of mold. When mention was made to the lady at the front desk the response was "Oh, it's probably humidity". Since we were only going to stay two nights we let it go and left the window wide open to be able to sleep. There is a large grassy area outside the hotel, which resembles an American style motel, where you can have a picnic and there is a small playground for children to play. I didn't have any food in the restaurant so I can't give an opinion on that, but for the size of the breakfast buffet available for six euros it seemed quite expensive. You can have a continental breakfast at the counter though for much less. It is very difficult to walk anywhere from this hotel, but by car there is a Carrefour supermarket and a McDonald's about five minutes away. If you are only a couple I would not recommend this hotel, but for large families it can be reasonable to stay here because of the option of a room with three beds. For a couple the Ibis in Oviedo has nicer and newer rooms, a much better location, and a much better breakfast.
“Going Home”
Very helpful staff and nice food. A bit isolated if you have no transport.
“Acceptable hotel in good location”
I have spent 4 nights at the H2 Los Fresnos in late August 2009 and was quite satisfied with my choice. I had reserved at a very interesting rate through an internet agency. I have probably been given one of the renovated rooms but I couldn't compare with the non-renovated ones. From the inside the hotel definitely is better than it looks like from outside, from where it makes a somehow worn impression. Despite my generally positive impression, I think that it does not correspond to a real *** standard; ** would be more appropriate. Some positive points: (1) Staff was very nice and friendly. (2) A buffet breakfast is served for 5 EUR from 7h on, which was excellent for me since I had planned to leave early for excursions. (3) The location is really good, as the hotel is almost next to the intersection of the two most important highways of Asturias (the East-West route and the Gijón-León north-south route), so you can reach many destinations in that region within very short time. (4) Free wireless internet access is provided in the rooms, and for those who do not carry a laptop with them, there is a free internet access near the reception. (5) There is a Carrefour shopping center with different restaurant facilities only two minutes away. Some negative points: (1) As many other reviewers have pointed out, the hotel is under-staffed: the same person has to keep the reception, serve at the bar, look after the breakfast buffet etc. (2) Many reviewers have complaint about the breakfast buffet being empty -or not refilled- which might indeed happen. I cannot confirm this since I have taken my breakfast always at 7h in the morning, but it looks like as if things that run out are not systematically refilled. (3) There has been much road construction around the hotel site, so the site is nothing special; there is little noise, however. (4) The parking grounds and the garden are not well kept at all and look very neglected. This is a pity since the small park area could be a nice place, but currently it looks desolate. For me, this hotel was ideal (low price, good road access, early breakfast) and I would certainly return there. For people looking for a picturesque address or the comfort and service of a real *** accomodation, I think this is not the best choice.
