“Exceptional host, average apartment”
Jose is a fabulous host, communicative, helpful with recommendations, flexible and very responsive (fixing a broken heater within the day). We could not have asked for a better host. The apartment is average. Beds were comfortable and the convenience of a washing machine helpful.
As the apartment is on the ground floor with public sporting across the road, the window shades need to be kept down for privacy so it is constantly dark and did not feel like a welcoming space to spend any real length of time. The kitchen is not easy to work in, with limited utensils and inconvenient access to them. Having looked again at alternative places to stay in Cudillero and elsewhere I would say there is better value for money options. This apartment was our most expensive stay while in Northern Spain and our least preferred. The restaurant next door does not open according to it's published days/times when you are there outside of peak season so it is necessary to drive to find a restaurant. Cudillero itself is quaint but it is most definitely a tourist town and when there outside of tourist season it is rather dead and sad. If we were to travel to these parts again we would most likely stay in a town like San Estaban de Pravia which does not rely entirely on tourism and so has activity and life in the off seasons
“Beautiful region, friendly owners, great location”
Quick access to Cudillero on foot, and within easy driving distance of Avilés, Oviedo and Gijón. The apartment is cosy, with all the core amenities. We were met by Isobel who was very friendly and kind, and José was always on hand to assist with any queries we had. It's right next to a lovely restaurant and parking is plentiful. It's a beautiful region, very close to a number of stunning beaches, lots of hiking opportunities, and great Asturian delicacies. Getting here from the airport was quick and easy too.
Nothing much to complain about at all, but be aware that it is a ground floor apartment, but there is no step free access if you are in need of that. Luckily this was not an issue for us, and we can wholeheartedly recommend this location
