“Simply magical!”
I never write reviews, like ever but I absolutely had to for Casa Blanco. From the moment we realized it was 1.5 miles off the French Way, I thought we’d made a mistake. But within five minutes of calling, the husband arrived to pick us up with the warmest smile. When we got there, we were welcomed by his incredible wife, who prepared what I can only describe as THE BEST meal I had on the camino. She even did our laundry while we relaxed in what might be the most charming home Ive ever stepped into. The next morning, we were treated to a gorgeous breakfast that felt like it was straight out of a dream, and then he kindly dropped us right back on the trail. I can’t stop thinking about the food, the kindness, the peace of it all. You must stay here. I’m already dreaming of coming back for a long weekend just to soak in their hospitality again. Casa Blanco is simply magical!!!
Nothing! It was perfect.
“Excellent stay with excellent hospitality. Highly recommend.”
Wonderful property. Run by Luisa and her family. Luisa was the most welcoming and warm hostess. Fantastic dinner and breakfast. We were walking the Camino - they picked us up from Palas de Rei and dropped us back on the Camino in the morning. One of my favorite stays on the Camino.
If ending your Camino stage at Palas de Rei, can’t easily get to property from Camino, but they picked us up and took us back to Camino, so it was a minor adjustment.
“The best on the Camino Frances”
This was the most wonderful place we stayed in on the Camino Frances. The hosts son picked us up in town and we were brought to their fabulous family home. They were so friendly and nothing was a problem. The food was superb 👌 we had an idyllic night in Casa Blanco 🥰
Nothing
“Perfect - best place on the whole trip.”
Everything- the best place of the whole trip. The food and the service was excellent.
“Remote, intrusive, not worth it, proceed with caution”
My experience at Casa Blanco was profoundly disappointing and warrants a serious warning for potential guests. From the outset, the stay felt more like an unwanted intrusion into a personal space than a welcoming accommodation. I cannot stress enough the importance of considering the following points before making a reservation. Firstly, the pricing is exorbitant for what is offered. Prior to staying at Casa Blanco, we had booked several other "Casa" accommodations along the Camino, all of which provided multiple rooms, essential amenities, and a sense of privacy. In stark contrast, Casa Blanco felt like a personal residence where every movement was monitored. The walls are paper-thin, allowing for little to no sound insulation, which contributes to an unsettling atmosphere. Our arrival was marked by an unexpected phone call hours before check-in, pressuring us to pre-order dinner. This felt inappropriate, especially as we were in transit on the Camino and had no clear idea of our needs. Despite expressing our intention to find a meal elsewhere, we were met with insistence on their part, which raised concerns about their hospitality practices. Upon arrival, we discovered the property is situated in a remote area, far from the Camino, which added to our feelings of isolation. We were presented with a menu featuring overpriced meals—€25 per person—along with an insistence that they had already "prepared" food for our children. Their relentless push to sell us food became overwhelming, particularly since my husband had a work commitment that extended past the kitchen's closing time. When we informed them that we could not dine at the designated time, we were met with hostility. The ensuing confrontation was marked by unprofessional behavior, with staff yelling at us in front of our children, accusing us of disrespecting their home.
“Quiet country retreat with the best care of their guests”
It is difficult to say what was more fantastic: the owner/hostess (and her family helpers) or the 3-course meal Manse cooked! My friend and I were truly blown away by the dinner and the breakfast that were served (go ahead and buy dinner--you won't be sorry!); they rivaled a Michelin star restaurant. Apparently, Manse is a self-taught chef. The attention to detail of the host is very personalized, like Manse bringing me some fresh fruit while I lounged in the back yard; or the restaurant recommendations she texted when I was in the next location. I felt like my hostess really cared about me. The old farm house is painted in cheery colors and everything in my room and bath worked great. Since this is a casa rural (Rural country home) and it is about 15 minutes by car off the Camino de Santiago, the hosts come and retrieve guests from Palas do Rei and drop them back onto the Camino path when they leave. For tired, worn-out pilgrims, this quiet country retreat is heavenly.
Keep in mind that this is an old house, and as such, there is no air conditioning or many electrical outlets, but this was of no concern for me.
