“Stay away, better find something else”

The studio apartment is weirdly designed, divided by glass walls that take away all privacy. A person sleeping in the bed can see and hear another person brushing teeth directly in front of them. The toilet is separated by a sliding glass door (opaque in the middle, though). You can hear and partly see the person sitting on the toilet through the gaps. But these are minor problems compared to what happened next. On the first evening we found cockroaches. Because of this, we had to disinfect all the dishes, as we had planned to use the kitchen. The noise at night was so loud that even with earplugs, fully closed windows, shutters, and doors, it felt like we were in the middle of a party. We didn’t sleep a single minute. The bed linen was very old, as if it had been used by hundreds of people before. It had stains and hair on it. On the second day, we found cockroaches again. This was the breaking point. Just a few days before Christmas, we had to urgently find another place to stay, which cost us much more money. But the worst part is coming. In over 20 years of traveling to more than 50 countries, I have never dealt with such an stubborn host. Despite many complaints, the host refuses to refund even the unused nights. In their messages, they mockingly play with words and terms like a skilled lawyer in a courtroom, trying to force their vision of resolution and avoiding refund at all costs. They call my decision to leave "unilateral," as if basic cleanliness and the absence of cockroaches are extra services that a guest has to request. They blamed me for not waiting for them to resolve all the issues instead of simply enjoying my vacation. Booking.com reviewed all my evidence, confirmed there was indeed a violation, and refunded 10% of the booking price. Unfortunately, despite Booking.com’s efforts to mediate and resolve the issue with the host, he or she refuses to refund and Booking.com can't do anything about it. Very sad.
