We live in fuerteventura and we come to Lanzarote often to visit my parents who stay here for a few months a year. The host has a camera at the entrance of the property where she watches you coming and going. We understand that for the squatter (okupa) issue in Spain it is necessary to have security on an empty property but in the case of this property the camera is being used as a violation of privacy and the owner is clearly watching you throughout the stay. She has our reservation details, passport details and address. There is no reason to be watching the property when it has guests in it. My parents came twice to the property to spend some time with their grandchildren. They sat on the terrace. I received a message from the owner saying she had seen people arrive who weren't staying at the property (a couple in their 70s, not a pair of strippers) and that they should leave. Obviously this upset me as I wanted to spend some time with my parents and for them to feel welcome (as it says on the host's description she wants you to feel at home) To be told they cannot come spend time with us at our place of stay is completely unacceptable and unfair and it totally ruined my day. We have stayed in many properties in Lanzarote and this is the first time this has happened and the first time we have felt so watched.If you value your privacy then don't stay here. There is nothing on the property description to say visitors are not allowed. Only a list of rules we read on the back of the door after we were sent the message. If we had known this when we booked the property we would have booked somewhere where we felt welcome, trusted and comfortable. It's a shame because we were really enjoying are stay up to this point and this is why I still give the apartment a good review score.
