The best

The apartment decor is light and modern and there are very many handy kitchen utensils. Air conditioning works well. I particularly liked that there were salt, pepper, sugar, oil, herbs, etc left for use by visitors. The bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable, as is the sofa. The little writing desk was very useful for our daughter to do her colouring/art. The outdoor seating area is spacious and has great views of the historic quarry where the complex is built (the quarry’s marble was used for the Alhambra and for many important buildings in Spain), lovely groves of trees, and the medieval hilltop Castell de Bayren. The main pool is really lovely and we spent many relaxing hours there each day, sometimes listening to the waterfall at the shallower pools above us. There were enough sun loungers at the pool (it was never too crowded) and there was adequate shade provided by the umbrellas. Unfortunately, the pools could not be accessed if the lift breaks down as it did for a short period during our visit, as the owner had not provided a key to the gateway. The cost was reasonable in August 2024 (150 euro per night). There is also a quiet beach nearby, but the road to get there is narrow and a little hair-raising! (Gandia main beach is lovely but really crowded in August). The owner herself was friendly on the two occasions I talked to her on the phone, and did her best to get our pool problem sorted out.

To be improved

Communication needs to be improved. However, from talking to the host I think she took our comments on board. You may be asked to send photographs of identity documents for all occupants prior to arrival (if you are not comfortable with this, I suggest that you paste them into a document and encrypt them). I sent our documents a month prior to arriving but was still sent the same impersonal email requesting them on the day of arrival (actually twice that day). We would have liked to receive a welcome message by email prior to arrival. The lockbox code was given only when we were standing by the door. It would have been much better to have had detailed instructions about how to access the property before our flight (The address on Booking.com covers various apartments in this complex). The day we left, a cleaning lady arrived at 09.40 saying (in Spanish) that we had to be out by 10.00 (on Booking.com checkout time was given as 12.00). Clear instructions would be welcome about accessing the pool (3 or 4 lifts are needed, but you can walk in 5 mins with one lift at the end, if a friendly person shows you how!), and its opening hours (10a.m-10p.m) There were instructions to take all recycling and rubbish with us, but we found a bag of rubbish in the outdoor area left by a previous tenant, who probably did not know where to put it, as there were no instructions. Only one bin bag supplied. No washing up liquid. Half a roll of toilet paper. We eventually found the recycling containers, which are located on the drive in to the complex, but could not see any place for non-recyclable waste. The second bedroom where two of us slept was very small, with a single bed and a narrow campbed with awkward shelves above it, and no hanging space or drawers (just a few small shelves). The coffee maker was complicated and would not work for us (flashing light about descaling). Plungers are easier. Traffic noise. Our stay was good, but could have been great with a little more care!
