“Beautiful view and good stay but you need to know a few things”
You get a lot of space and facilities for the price. You get 2 bathrooms, 3 toilets, a kitchen with a dish washer, a refrigerator, a terrace and a beautiful view of the mountains/countryside. You have a good living room with a table and a tv that has HDMI input (tucked away). I brought my Google home with tv and watched Netflix at night. The morning view is amazing when you ride down towards the town. Its breathtaking! At night the stars are abundant and shine bright. At dawn the view is again like a painting. At night the place is quiet besides a few dogs barking. The place is quite isolated too. Enough parking space is around the place too. It's quite centrally places with las Palmas around 20 minutes away, Maspolamos around 40 and Mogan around 55 minutes away. Near the place is a nice big mall with several restaurants, (major) shops etc. it's quite modern and should have everything you need (including a major super market to get groceries or bug spray etc.). The owner is friendly/nice and always picks up his phone. He helped with an issue we had the same day and fixed it. The house is near a garden where wine is made, potato and citrus fruits are planted. Even in january around the day the sun is shining bright and you can enjoy it on the terrace.
First up, it's up in the mountains and the ride up can be a bit daring if you aren't used to it. The road is two ways but at certain points quite small (especially with all the curves and S bends). Parts don't have light. The sides have guards with reflectors which does make up for it. It is definitely doable and the sides have guards and for some (like the locals). Second, it's isolated. So at night not only is it dark but there isn't a soul to be found near the place. If you are used to the city this again can be quite daring. It's quite and a bit dark around the house. And you might wanna leave the outside light on but dont... You also NEED to have a car if you going to stay here. The supermarket is around 7 minutes to drive to (a small local supermarket) while the mall is around 15 minutes away. Walking and the bus in my opinion is a no go. Third, sadly the kitchen smelled a bit (not horrible but it wasn't a pleasant smell) and so did the lower toilet. You do pay 50 euros for clean up fees and I'd expect the house to smell at least a bit nice for it. The bathrooms looked okay but at a closer look you could see it wasn't cleaned properly (for a germaphobic). Fourth, the house is old and squeaky. The house needs to be fixed up. It isn't horrible, but just small things that would improve its condition (mainly the doors). A few of doors won't close at all (like that of the kitchen, which again smelled) while others you have to force to close. This all should be easily fixed by just setting new doors (or spraying some oil). The house isn't isolated well and isn't sound proof. In January it can be a bit chilly. There is 1 big con though...its mosquitos. There is A LOT of them. Dont let the door be open too long and get a bug spray. The first night we couldnt sleep because of the seemingly infinite mosquitos. Called the owner the next morning and he installed certain plugins the same day.
“Exceptional”
We contacted Luis prior to arrival and he was there when we arrived with a very warm and friendly welcome in Spanish and fantastic English. Super quiet location in a lovely old Finca which had a large and comfortable living room, a very well equipped kitchen with top notch appliances. The main bedroom was large with dual aspect windows. The ensuite and main bathroom were to a high standard with a great shower in each. This is the real Gran Canaria, a working Finca in a rural location. Luiz was a fantastic host who made very good wine. He was on hand if you needed him but was never intrusive
There was nothing to dislike, only the weather could have been better.
