Casual Bilbao Gurea

Lovely small hotel right next to the cathedral in old town Bilbao. Very very helpful staff who helped us with our bikes and could not have been more accommodating. Great location for exploring Bilbao and also close to the main train station. Highly recommended

Nice, clean place to stay in the Casco Viejo (the old town), a stone's (maybe two stones') throw from the river. Friendly & helpful staff. Good Wi-Fi. Not a huge room and not a lot of amenities, but I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just a place to rest my head before/after heading off to the Guggenheim. On the third floor, with an elevator. Nice & a little touristy neighborhood.

Basic but comfy and clean rooms with attentive service from cleaning staff. Reception is open 24 hours and friendly and helpful. Easy to get into room with code for main door as well. No free water. No fridge but location in the centres of old town meant it is easy to buy whatever is needed.

The first time I entered the room it smelled as if it has just been cleaned. Well - that smell of cleanliness was there all the 5 days I spent there. Apart from being so clean, the hotel is in a great location in the historic town of Bilbao - close to tram, the underground, the bus... However, I preferred walking. The staff are great, helpful and relaxed, their English is great. So, if you need reasonably priced accommodation in Bilbao, this is a hotel to book. And yes there is a room which serves as both a dining room and a living room - if you want to prepare your own breakfast - there is a microwave, fridge, the cutlery and plates which you can use. And there is a vending machine. Great!!!

We thoroughly have enjoyed our stay at the Casual Gurea. Prior to arriving, our questions were answered timely through the booking app and with hospitality. We arrived late in the evening on a Thursday and met by Patricia , an absolute gem of a host. She spent 15 minutes walking us through a map and telling us about “her city”. After that, we were ready for dinner and she told us just the right place within a block of the hostel. We are grateful for having found this wonderful place and recommend it to all for a local stay in Old Town.

So this review is very mixed…..the location, customer service levels and bed comfort were all exemplary but the hotel was SO incredibly noisy. I do understand some of this cannot be controlled but we heard everything - every passing resident, creaking floorboard, shower, our sleep wasn’t great for any of the three days we were there and that’s the only reason this review is so low as we value a good nights sleep.
