Verified reviews from real guests who have already stayed here.
Great pool and food amenities received positive feedback.
Food was broadly praised and well-presented throughout reviews.
Staff were generally friendly, but there were complaints about the front desk staff.
Convenient location near clubs and beaches, with good access to public transport.
Mixed overall experience with some highlights in service and food, but significant issues noted.
Comments indicate it is expensive for what is offered, particularly concerning room quality.
“Good location, no issues”
Good location and good selection of food available at breakfast, pool was freezing but that's expected in December - was strange how the sunbeds were all locked up and opened at 10am on the dot but we always managed to find a couple of spare beds when we got back to the hotel early afternoon. Room was a good size, no noise whatsoever and bed was comfy. We did have to ask for towels to be changed a couple of times but not an issue. You definitely get what you pay for and for a winter break we didn't have any concerns.
“Not the Ritz but value for money”
Just got back from a week staying here. The room we stayed in was a little on the small side, dated, and had garden views as we were on floor 2, it did smell of drains to start with and the hotel offered us a room change the next day, but the smell went after we'd been using the bathroom so was fine. The balcony door however didn't have a lock on which we found strange though being at a lower floor level, would recommend they fit them for security reasons. The room wasn't cleaned or beds changed in the week we were there, the maids just make the beds and replace any used towels, that's it. As a maintenance engineer myself, the hotel does require their maintenance staff to maintain the hotel a little better, the corridor areas to rooms definitely need a spruce up, but overall it's really not too bad, especially in the main reception area. Also we didn't see any signs around the pool for shallow or deep areas, but we could of missed them, something to note if you have children, they do have a lifeguard on duty. Breakfast wasn't the best food wise, and we both couldn't drink their tea or coffee as it was awful, but the evening meals in general were fine, we always found something to eat and had no issues there. We did see that the hotel made a decent effort to put on evening entertainment, but it wasn't for us, we prefered to go out. The location is this hotels best asset. It's a 5 to 10 minute walk into Playa and from there you can explore the whole surrounding areas, it's so handy. Would we stay again? Yes! Is the hotel a little tired? Yes! But overall we enjoyed our week there. The hotel waiting staff work tirelessly and we found them very friendly. If you're looking for a week away in the sun its a decent hotel for what we paid, it's not the Ritz but we've certainly stayed in a lot worse, and it was value for money. Some poor reviews of this hotel on here are a little over the top in our opinion.
“Mixed review”
We recently stayed at Catalonia Oro Negro in Tenerife and overall had a good holiday, though there were a few drawbacks that would make us think twice about returning. The hotel itself is nice, with lovely pools that were perfect for the kids. There’s plenty going on throughout the day with activities for all ages and the evening entertainment shows and karaoke, they were enjoyable and well put together. A standout for us was the staff in the bar, restaurant, and entertainment teams. They work incredibly hard, always with big smiles, and really help create a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, one of the lifeguards really impacted our experience. He was overly strict and often shouted at children and parents unnecessarily, even when nothing had happened. It created a tense environment around the pool and took away from what should have been a relaxing, fun space. Our first room (555) was quite disappointing due to noise. Being close to the road, bars, and early morning bin collections (around 3am), it was very difficult to sleep—especially with a five-year-old who was only getting a few hours of rest each night. Initially, reception were not very helpful when we requested a move, but thankfully our Jet2 Holidays representative stepped in and arranged a room change for our fifth night. We were moved to room 305, which was much quieter. I would however definitely recommend a pool-view room, as this seems to be the calmest area. The rooms themselves were okay but could use some improvement. The mattresses and pillows weren’t in great condition, and there were visible stains which was off-putting. Although extra covers were provided, it didn’t fully make up for it. The flooring also looked worn, with some areas lifting due to damage from bed frames. Food-wise, the breakfast and evening buffet were good with plenty of choice each day. The grilled meats in particular were varied and very tasty. The bar food at lunchtime pizzas, burgers, club sandwiches was also decent and reasonably priced. Drinks at the hotel bar are a bit on the pricey side, especially compared to nearby pubs where you can often get better deals. The location is definitely a plus close to lots of amenities and within easy reach of everything you might need. One thing to note is the presence of cockroaches outside, and occasionally in the rooms. While not ideal, it’s clear the hotel puts effort into cleanliness through the main areas of the hotel and this seems to be more of a general area issue rather than poor hygiene Overall, once we managed to change rooms, we had a good holiday. However, due to the issues we experienced, particularly with noise and the lifeguard, we probably wouldn’t return to this hotel. That said, we would definitely visit Las Americas again—it’s a lovely area with plenty to offer
“Good all round hotel”
Good location. Good value for a 3 star and the staff a all polite and helpful.
“4 out of 5 is fair”
We stay here for 5 days and the hotel is decent. It’s basic and simple, the rooms are spacious enough for a family of 3. The food at breakfast and tea time is to a good standard. We had breakfast most days and you can’t go wrong with fresh omelettes , We don’t eat here every night but when we did there was enough variety to fill us. The staff were friendly enough. The life guard by the pool seemed to have a problem with our child swimming on his own even though one of us was constantly watching him. The rooms could certainly do with bringing up to date and the fact you’ve got to shower in cubicles outside by the pool once you have checked out was annoying. All in all 4 stars out of 5 I think is fair
“Tired dirty hotel, but staff lift the rating.”
Ok so this hotel I'll start with positives, it is in a great location, the food is ok, but very repetitive and sometimes things get a bit burnt, but it's put out anyway! To my children's horror , there were no hash browns at breakfast! My toddler didn't really eat anything apart from breakfast as he didn't like a single thing apart from one night fish was on. Staff on the whole are lovely, couldn't fault them. But negatives are the hotel is pretty filthy. Everywhere needs a good scrub, from the rooms, to the lifts, to the stairwell, the restaurant and the pool. Just filth everywhere. Our room was so disgusting, I went and bought cleaning products to clean it myself. The floor was filthy and under the beds, below the bathroom sink, and under furniture obviously never gets cleaned, only the parts that are walked on get a small clean. There was also either snot or sperm on the curtains, we had several cockroaches, although I think that's standard in most of Tenerife. The poolside was dirty, it needed a good scrub, and the stairwell if not using the lifts was absolutely disgusting. If the cleanliness was improved in this hotel, it could be so much better, but it totally missed the mark there. The kids playpark had sand in it, which people obviously smoked and left the tabbys in the sand, yuk! Also was a cardigan half buried which just sat for days, so it was obvious nobody kept an eye on the area. I put a photo on if how dirty the water still was after I had cleaned the floor 4 times. At least the next person in the room would have a clean floor! The bedding and towels were clean tho, so at least they were on top of that! Could be a decent hotel if properly looked after.
