“The perfect base for exploring”
Unknown to us, this is actually a historic house owned once by a Nobel prize winning author. Memorabilia abound. We arrived much earlier than check in time but were happily accommodated enabling us to get on with our day. When we entered the room, we thought we'd been given the bridal suite (see photo). Such a lovely welcome! Location was perfect for combining the Columbus Trail, El Rocio and trips to Coto Donana national park (or the beach had it been in season). The pool looked inviting too but was obviously closed in March! A lively snack bar used extensively by the locals and an elegantly decorated formal dining room with fabulous views were both excellent options for an evening meal. The free breakfast was tasty and generous. Moguer, an attractive white town, was nearby with more eating options but we were too tired to investigate those, especially since parking seemed a nightmare, whereas the hotel had a huge parking lot. Despite the renowned tapas bars which we sampled in Huelva, I am sure this was a much better option for accommodation.
Despite its designation as a rural location (perhaps because of the trees surrounding two sides and the dirt road leading to it), it's actually at the back of an industrial estate - very much the norm in this part of Spain, which is also marred by acres of plastic greenhouses and the most disastrously pot-holed roads I've experienced. None of this is the fault of the hotel but be warned.
