“Nice for a one or two nights if passing through to explore the north but not for an extended stay.”
Tierra del Trigo is really beautiful, high up in the mountains. We stayed here for two weeks in February. Great for hiking, access to exploring the north of the Island. The house itself is beautifully finished, has lots of kitchen equipment and facilities. Beds are very comfortable and lots of blankets, nice TV with netflix, etc and good WiFi. Lots of hot water was nice. We could always find parking up the street. Quiet for sleeping (apart from barking dogs!) and nice that the houses directly attached to us on either side were empty. Host did fix the shower head when we requested which we were thankful for.
Host was very business like and not at all friendly or responsive. No communication beforehand as to how to get into the house or response from messages. At the end of a 12 hour journey from our home in Ireland, we had to wait a half hour outside the house (with 2 kids!) until he arrived with the keys to let us in. No acknowledgement/apology of the inconvenience, just blamed Booking.com. Beds were damp on the first night. Electricity kept going out in the evenings at random times. He eventually got an electrician to look at it but he couldn't find the fault. We eventually figured out that after the heaters were on for about 15 mins (house is cold in the evenings), the electricity went out. We told him this but he never responded or did anything about it so we just had to put up with it. Every night, the street light directly outside the mezzanine window flashed on and off intermittently every 5 mins for the whole night which greatly disturbed our children's sleeping. The description says it has garden views which is misleading as there is no outdoor space, let alone a garden. It is a terraced house in the middle of the village and the front door leads directly onto a busy main road where cars frequently pass by too fast - you have to be extremely cautious going out the door, especially with children. It is quite impossible to get clothes dry due to the dampness of the house and the climate in the mountains in the winter. The alarm went off randomly one day and we couldn't figure out how to get it off, a woman was speaking to us through the alarm but we couldn't understand her or what was going on. We messaged our host but he never responded. At other random times, a voice would come out of the alarm, it was quite alarming!
