Cueva Alicante

This property was SO disappointing, not at all like the pictures, whoever took them did a lot of photoshopping to make it look bright, clean & spacious, it was none of these things. It was dark, dingy, cold & very uncomfortable. Absolutely no privacy as there are hordes of people passing right outside every day up & down the steps to & from the Castle at the top. The ‘kitchen’ was a corner of the living room, it was put together very roughly & badly with very little thought. I certainly didn’t find a coffeemaker! There was barely enough room to squeeze into the tiny bathroom which was full of small flies. There was liquid soap on the wash basin, no other toiletries, free or otherwise. Mould on the wall in the corner of the larger bedroom. Beds very uncomfortable, creaking loudly with every movement. Some bedside lamps had no sockets to plug them into. There’s a considerable gap under the front door which was unnerving, Also looked like an old cupboard door was put on the upper part of the front door on the inside which had a very small sliding bolt to keep it in place which didn’t fit very well - this was not at all secure. In place of a window there are sliding glass doors with a dark curtain on the inside. It is not feasible to open this curtain due to the crowds of people passing outside all day & evening so no natural gets in. This property needs a lot of work to make it acceptable as it really appears to be just thrown together quickly without any proper professional input. Certainly not worth the money. Got there on Thursday 8th May, firstly, was not prepared for the steep steps leading to the apartment. I checked the details of the apartment on line again & I can’t see a mention of these steep steps which are not for the faint hearted. Met host who did not speak any English so communicating was difficult. She gave me 2 sets of keys, showed me around, handed me a sheet of paper with a WiFi password.

Where to begin. The apartment is not as light and airy and spacious as it would appear in the photographs. There is no privacy from the hundreds of people that are going up and down the steps all day, the homeowner has put a net curtain over the window which is see through at night. There is no blind or curtain for night time. The apartment is damp, several damp traps are sat around full of water and there is evidence of mould on the stone walls in the bedroom. We were unable to stay because of this and had to move out to alternative accommodation. The kitchen is badly fitted, sharp edges and wonky cupboards/surfaces. The cooker hood is held together with tape and zoom in on the photo to see the absolutely rotten dirty and mouldy filters underneath. I wish I had done that before booking to stay there! The bathroom is very tiny, and the taps and shower fittings are very badly corroded which is very off putting. Again if you zoom in you can see this on the photos. There is a gap under the front door which needs sealed, you can hear every conversation on the street, the front door handle is broken, the light in the bedroom wasnt working and the bedside table was fixed to the wall with one nail and just fell Off. It was a total shambles and so disappointing. The exterior is so pretty but the inside is crying out for attention. It’s such a shame as it could be so lovely. Booking.com & Holidu the agency managing the property were exceptional and my booking was successfully cancelled and refunded.
