“Perfect stay with wonderful service”

We loved our stay, the staff are incredibly kind and attentive and it felt like they genuinely cared about making our stay great. The gardens are beautiful and full of character, with art installations tucked between the trees and pathways, which made just walking around the property a real highlight. Our room was unique, clearly a lot of thought had gone into the design, with unique details and artwork that made it feel personal and memorable. A peaceful, one-of-a-kind spot.

“Cool & Quirky not really 5 Star”

A somewhat unusual hotel located inland near the small town of Compos. Our room, a Junior Suite, was quirky and really cool. It could have done with having a bath as well as a shower. Some of the standard rooms looked quite small. The reception is not manned 24/7 and even during the normal working day it was often unoccupied and you were expected to use WhatsApp to make contact. The pool is very small and the pool bar (the only bar at the hotel) was only open for a few hours a day and closed around 530pm The restaurant was a pretty basic structure and was sweltering at breakfast time. The breakfast choices were limited to say the least. The evening menu was really good however and foodies will love the choices and quality of the food. The grounds were sort of impressive with lots of bits of art dotted here and there although there was no coherent theme - it felt like things had been collected and just scattered around the grounds. The local town had little to offer and nearest restaurants were about 15 min drive away. On the plus side this meant they were full of locals and not the usual tourist traps. If you are staying here you definitely need a car.

Pictures don't reflect reality. We had a junior suite and the pictures didn't show what we had, we were expecting a big terrace and it wasn't the case. But the most important thing was the smell. As soon as we opened the door there was a strong smell of damp, we tried to open all the doors to get rid of the smell but we just couldn't. The smell was so intense that we couldn't sleep properly. During the day we tried not to stay in the room because it made us very uncomfortable. We talked to the staff about it, they told us it was because the room was closed for the winter, which could make sense, but the smell was so intense that we are not sure if it will be different in a few weeks or even months. It was the same in the gym, the same kind of damp smell, we couldn't use the gym as it was so intense. It would be nice to keep the doors of the fitness centre open to refresh the air, but the door is kept closed all day, so we can imagine the smell will stay forever... Finally, the breakfast is not so good, especially the coffees that taste like boiled water. We paid for 2 breakfasts in advance but we didn't even take the second one, preferring to have breakfast outside. We fell sorry for the staff has they are very nice and friendly but the price of the property didn’t reflect the standing.

- Beautiful location, quiet and soul-restoring - Very clean - Access to an astonishing art collection: if you appreciate art, there’s literally something for everyone here - Fabulous, well-maintained gardens - Great pool (with pool bar) - Brilliant fine dining restaurant onsite - very reasonably priced too! - Helpful and friendly staff
