“Ghost town - RENTAL CAR a MUST HAVE”
The apartment itself was great - almost brand new, very clean, lots of amenities. The host was very responsive, as we had lots of questions about how to operate things such as the induction hob (range). Hint: it won't turn on unless you're using metal pots, so the glass tea kettle would not allow it to function. Beaches were, ummm... uncrowded in the extreme. See below...
This apartment is in a very large complex that's pretty isolated, is a good 30 minutes or more from Cartagena by car, and appears to be one of the 'problem' developments in Spain - where a huge number of units were built based on the assumption that 'if you build it they will come' - they didn't. The place 100% feels like a ghost town. 1000s of units and very few people (we probably saw a doze or two in all). This makes for a rather eerie experience. This also means the local service infrastructure like restaurants and such do not follow any sort of regular hours, apparently due to an extreme dearth of customers - we arrived just after siesta time and walked all over and every restaurant was closed for the night (some permanently). Apparently, there was only one functioning mini-market open (the others we saw on the map apparently abandoned), which was really fortunate (so we could eat that night!) because (the other huge issue): If (like us) you have no rental car here YOU CAN EASILY GET STRANDED, especially if you're not able to communicate well in Español. It took us hours to track down and communicate with a taxi service that understood us well enough to send a car. All in all, we consumed a good half day in effectuating a successful escape (insert favorite Kurt Russell reference here...)! If you have a rental car and don't mind driving to reach civilization for meals and entertainment, and if you're looking for a VERY quiet spot with nobody on the beaches, this might be just the spot for you. We stayed only one night out of 3 scheduled, then removed ourselves to Cartagena. Oh also: the ad for this place says it has air conditioning. It doesn't. It has fans, but if you use the ceiling fans, they suck in flying insects (fun!). So if it's hot (as it was when we visited), you'll be using a big portable fan that's in the unit.
