The staff were cordial and provided good support during the stay.
A unique and beautiful experience despite some drawbacks.
Spacious rooms with a wonderful atmosphere.
Beautiful area in Ribeiro wine country, but limited options nearby without a car.
Decent amenities with room for improvement, like better internet access.
Generally reasonable prices for the quality of experience offered.
“The food really ruins the experience”
This is a unique experience, and while the room was nice once I turned the radiator up to max, electrical outlets are scarce. It would be a lot nicer in the summer, but now at the beginning of November, it is cold and the walkways (and of course, gardens) are cold. The main problem is the restaurant, which has terrible food. My friend's fish was "poor", my wife described her chicken as "ok" but only ate half, and my steak ranks as one of the worst I've tried to eat in 80 years. It no meat flavor, no condiments, and in-spite of requesting "more than medium, so there is no red, it was, for me, undercooked. I asked the waitress for pepper, and several minutes later she brought me one little paper packet, so I had to ask for more. With 5 packets I was able to eat about half (until the mushrooms ran out). So if you go, take the time to go a few km up the road to Carballiño where there are some decent restaurants.
“Stunning”
Stunning building. The rooms were huge, the setting memorable. The most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed. Peaceful and serene.
Staff were a bit thin on the ground but did a fantastic job.
“Superb”
“It was all-in-all, magical.”
It was a beautiful experience. So serene and lovely. The cloisters are amazing - I felt like I was living in another century. Breakfast was delicious!
Not a lot I didn't like. It was all lovely. There were lots of children having a celebration and there were sweet papers and discarded candy littered around the pool, but that was the only thing that detracted slightly.
“We will take great memories from our stay.”
The breakfast was good. The room was excellent. What a beautiful building.
The staff were so professional apart from one.
“Not as good as we hoped.”
The building is lovingly restored, and the bed is very comfortable. Nice welcome gift of sweets in the room.
Unfortunately the details didn't mention that the onsite restaurant is closed on a Monday so instead of our plan to treat ourselves to some rest and relaxation, we had to find a place that was open, resulting in no time to relax as we then had to research and try to book somewhere, then a 15 min drive each way. If we had known, we would simply have booked for a different night. The air con is not very effective, and because it's a stone building, the wifi didn't work in our room. So to sum up, somewhat disappointing.
