The historic architecture of the reception area. The use of textiles and ceramics in the interior design scheme. Very good dinner in the Michelin starred (really !?!?) restaurant. Staff very charming and attentive

To be improved

The beautiful views were predominantly blocked by hedges and walls. The reception area was understaffed as was the spa area. I think it’s debatable to describe the hotel as one of the leading hotels of the world …. The Oriental Bangkok this is not. They need to get their checkin system sorted. Suggest taking guests to their room and checking them in there. Rather than hanging around in a queue. First impressions are v important

“Very relaxing, a fabulous week overall if not quite as good as 12 months ago”

Beautiful location and buildings very well kept, very attentive staff makes for a very relaxing stay. The hotel itself really is stunning and the relatively small number of guests makes you feel as if you are somewhere special.

To be improved

Limited meal choices, either very limited bar menu or Michelin starred fine dining (lovely but not something you necessarily want every day) and some things had changed from last year following the change in ownership, little things like getting a glass of fresh lemonade on arrival was removed and paying for water by the pool, this year everything was extra, better to just increase the price a little and include these things

“Outstanding location would love to return.”

The location is out of this world and the pool area, spa and restaurants are truly wonderful. Our suite was incredibly spacious with three separate terraces and nicely furnished. The staff were generally very good especially on reception. We would love to return next summer after the hotel has been refurbished by the new owners.

There was a problem in our suite with a nasty smell (drains?) from time to time. We also had a problem on the last day with an infestation of ants (both tiny ants and large flying ants) in our bathroom. The housekeeping staff tried to remove them but they kept returning and I had to spray the room 5 times before we got rid of them and it did stop me sleeping as some got into the bedroom. I reported this to reception and got an apology but we felt more could have been done as it really spoilt our last day/night and we paid a lot for the room.
