I can recommend renting a car from Hermanns, which is a 15-minute walk from the apartment - the whole process took 10 minutes, the prices are affordable (30 euros per day for a Fiat 500), and there is full insurance without any deposits. In addition to cars, you can get around by bus, which runs very frequently and to various locations (route 40 goes to Tenerife South Airport, by the way, and costs €3.20 per passenger).
