“Hotels are about beds and sleeping, this did not work for me”

Very friendly and kind owners

To be improved

Two single beds pushed together for a couple is unacceptable. Plus they were way too shot and feet hung off the end of the bed at the ankles.

The best

Charming hotel, decorated with photos, sketches and paintings by local artisans, featuring birds and history. Wandering the public rooms, all with welcoming seating, you feel the efforts of the owners to showcase nature. Food expertly prepared and presented. Rooms on the public terrace side have a little private sunroom, a lovely surprise. Would easily recommend.

The best

Have stayed here before. General interior has been improved. Fantastic for birding with it's own hides, and for astrophotography on the large communal balcony. Very good optional typically Spanish breakfast. Lovely owners who speak some English. Overall I would recommend!!

To be improved

Room was hot with some squeaky floorboards. Typical of an older Spanish hotels in my experience!

The best

Very welcoming. The owner is a keen birder and has created a hide within the guesthouse which visitors can access. There is also a lovely roof terrace with seating. The owner was very helpful and suggested a good walk for us which wasn’t too steep.

To be improved

The room was en suite but quite small but as we were only staying one night it wasn’t a problem. Being an older building there wasn’t any air conditioning. Not a problem for me but my husband prefers a cooler room.

The best

The Hostal Almanzor is a small hotel run by a lovely friendly couple with an amazing knowledge of the natural environment, especially the birdlife. Anyone who enjoys bird watching or who would like a very reasonably priced hotel with easy car access to the Gredos Mountains for hill walking and to experience the magnificent scenery, should consider staying here. The breakfast was continental and home made and the owners very helpful in finding a local restaurant for us to eat, as their evening restaurant opens only during peak season in July and August.

To be improved

Unusually, the weather was cloudy during our stay, but a very pleasant temperature for walking!
