Hostal Elkano

On our first night, in the evening we noticed our toilet had a leak and it did not flush. We informed the reception (who spoke no english) and we were not offered any other solution for the night, the only option offered was to use the shared bathroom in the reception. We were informed that a plumber would come in the morning, who did come and fixed the toilet, however it was such an inconvenience for us especially since we specifically booked a private bathroom and the reception bathroom was not very clean either. Moreover, no staff spoke a word of English, i find this disturbing in a city where so many tourists visit each year. On our last night there, we were using the hair dryer while also simultaneously having plagued in other small hair appliances, and all of a sudden the electricity in our room went out. The reception did sort it out 15/30 min later. The bed was not uncomfortable but not top quality either, it easily moved when turning or sliding on it. The bathroom had a constant smell of drainage even when we didn't use it. We were also not informed upon check in that the outside door opens with a keypad log, we were only informed on our second night when we rang the bell very late at night, that the code to the door was on our key, but this was not obvious to us. The staff even though they spoke no english, they were still accommodating and friendly (as best as they could) If i were to return, this hostal would not be my first option. Overall, i feel we over paid for this stay, considering all the issues and lack of certain facilities.

Was a bit noisy with some building work. but got earplugs so ok. .staff friendly but dont speak English

The place has a certain smell (like an “old house smell”) and it gets to be so noisy even late in the evening. So, if you’re a light sleeper, you will find this disturbing.
