“Lovely, peaceful hotel overlooking the sea”
This was our fifth stay at the hotel overlooking a small bay next to the Greco-Roman ruins at Empuries. The hotel is decorated with character and has a calming and relaxed atmosphere. The staff are welcoming, courteous and helpful. The rooms are nicely decorated with comfortable beds. Breakfast is extra, but worth the money with a wide range of healthy options and local produce. The restaurant has fish dishes and local wines and is good quality. A lovely hotel for a relaxing stay by the sea, we will return.
“Experience”
A superb hotel in an incredible position with most attentive staff.
“Our go-to retreat for a wonderful relaxing break!”
Our absolutely FAVE hotel. Attentive service, excellent restaurant (and seasonal Thermapolium cafe), relaxing terrace overlooking the sea, very pleasant, ecologically-sensitive rooms--and a can't be beat location at the edge of the Med, surrounded by trees, with a coastal boardwalk just outside the hotel door. We watched the moon rise over the sea and, when we opened our windows, we heard the soothing sound of the waves lapping on the sand.
“We cannot wait to come back. Love this hotel.”
We adore this hotel. So comforting and beautiful with the most privileged position by a private cove. We had a gorgeous room overlooking the sea with a charming balcony. The breakfast is amazing and copious. Dinners a bit lack-lustre and disorganised. And pricy for what you get. The bright food spot is the little hut next to the hotel where an enterprising couple serve delicious and thoughtful food and drinks based on ancient roman and greek recipes. They are also in charge of bar food during the week at the hotel which I highly recommend.
“Sea view hotel”
Very nice hotel overall. Good cuisine and good service in Reception and Dining Room. Isham , in the bar and dining room was particularly welcoming. We chose a front room with a full sea view. It was lovely to leave the windows open at night and to hear the waves outside. However, the room was a little basic ..... no tissues and only one hard chair to sit on. It was within easy walking distance of both San Marti and L'Escala. Would we return ,... yes!
“Book dinner in the restaurant early to avoid going hungry!”
This was our third time at Hostal Empuries and whilst I cannot fault the hotel, we did have a concern. Check-in was fairly straightforward even though we arrived a little early. However, in the evening, upon trying to get a table in the restaurant at 8:00pm, we were told that it was full and that the earliest we could be seated would be at 9:30pm. It would have been advisable for the receptionist at check-in to have informed us that the restaurant would likely be busy that evening and that we should book a table as soon as possible. We were eventually seated at 9:45pm after making quite a fuss. The following day, we booked a table in the morning for 8:00pm; needless to say, the restaurant was only half-full. We did notice that most of the staff (hotel and restaurant) were very young, late teens to early twenties. Training would appear to be what is missing for some of them. For example, one of the servers at our table had obviously never opened a bottle of wine with a corkscrew before - it was quite embarrassing (for him).
