“A place to stop & renew near SdCompostela”
The best

After walking the Camino, Hostel Nomad was the perfect place to land in Santiago. Tucked just a short walk from the cathedral, it offered a peaceful, private space to rest and reflect after the long journey. Everything is done via WhatsApp, so while you don’t meet the staff in person, they are incredibly helpful, kind, and responsive. Check-in was smooth, any questions were answered quickly, and I felt genuinely supported throughout my stay. The rooms are clean, modern, well equipped, comfortable and quiet-ideal for a pilgrim looking to unwind without the bustle of a busy Albergue . It felt like a calm retreat after weeks on the road, with just the right balance of independence and care. You might be a little confused when you arrive as we were, because the rooms are above a small bespoke restaurant (seats maybe 12) and you walk through it to access a winding staircase to your rooms. Everything is code orientated and it’s texted to you the day you arrive. I love the windows onto ‘the winding alleys’ below which all lead to the cathedral. It’s lovely to wake up after a long walk (I stayed three nights) and look out and call to pilgrims and see the bustle of the people below. Surprisingly, the restaurant below is only open a few nights a week and the food is exceptional, made fresh to order by one chef and is dependent on what they have that’s organically supplied by locals. One would also think that because of its location (maybe four minutes from the cathedral but you can’t see it), it would be noisy. Not at all. I highly recommend Hostel Nomad to anyone finishing their Camino who’s looking for a thoughtful, quiet space to rest. Even without face-to-face contact, the warmth still comes through.

The stairwell is dark despite lights on the landing - perhaps the light bulbs had burned out when I was there?

“Remote hosting with numerous tech failures - caution is recommended”
The best

The room was well decorated, the bathroom lovely and the beds comfortable. The location was central, being above a restaurant on the busiest pedestrian street in the city. The challenge was that this made it very noisy during the night (the room was on the street side), so ideally ear plugs should be used.

This property has no available service, except via texting. The check-in is remote via an App and when issues arise, there is no one available to answer the problem except by WhatsApp text. Two days before arrival, and after payment was made, I received an email telling me to fill in the registration form on the "app" or I would not receive my access code. The app / link to app didn't work. I replied by email and received a delayed reply asking me to use WhatsApp and they would send the registration link. This worked. I was then given a code to enter the building but not the room - stating I could go to the App to get that on the day of arrival. As the App didn't work for me, I had to again ask that the code be sent via WhatsApp. Arrival was without problems. However, after returning from dinner that night at 23:00, the room code would not work. I called the service number and was told they did not speak English so please text my problem. I did and was told the room code had been changed for "security reasons" and to wait while they changed it remotely. It's not acceptable to be locked out of your room at 23:00 and only entry available if you text the remote host. Also to note that no breakfast is offered, contrary to the description. Coffee pods and stale muffins in plastic are left in the room only. Overall, despite the nice room and good location, I would not recommend this place, as it is possible to be locked out of your room, or to not obtain an entry code despite paying for the room. Remote hosting is not great, but if a host is going to do this, the obligation is on the host to make sure it works well not for the guest to scramble to gain access to a paid room.

“Fantastic place to stay. Great rooms and location.”
The best

Really nice and spacious room that has been renovated to high standards. Lots of space. Great bathroom. Large bed. Nice views. Fridge + snack facilities. Very comfortable and welcoming place to stay right in the middle of the main restuarant street in old town. Was not expecting it to be so nice - highly recommend as a place to stay.

To be improved

Nothing - was excellent overall. Only thing to deal with is access as it is in a pedestrian zone so need to carry bags a few hundred meters...but very small inconvenience and unavoidable
