Hotel Balneario Areatza

We were at this accommodation only for a weekend. It is called spa hotel, although it is not a spa, but rather a hotel with a small indoor pool with simple jets of water. The service was correct. I found the facilities clean and quite new. The buffet was small nevertheless we could find every we need. The service was very kind when we asked for a special diet for our daughter. is a very interesting site for the natural environment, the spectacular natural park of Gorbea. It is worth asking about beech woods for excursions.

We came here for the rugby in Bilbao and although 15 miles outside it was a lovely place to stay. The hotel is okay. The rooms are comfortable but the walls are thin. You can here people going to the toilet in adjacent rooms plus conversations. The shower was very small and uncomfortable to shower in. The staff were pleasant and the buffet breakfast acceptable. The village setting was great and the locals very friendly. We used two local nearby bars over 3 nights which had more atmosphere than the hotel itself. It was fine for a bunch of blokes on a rugby trip but I wouldn't bring the Mrs here.

We visited this hotel a few times over the last year on our way to friends in Portugal. The village of Areatza is lovely; typical Basque, good food, friendly people, and beautiful houses. The Hotel Balneario is a clean, functional hotel: spacious rooms, large parking, a small terras, and a nice garden (ideal for a short walk in the morning). Although the staff is very friendly, they do not speak English or French. Every time, they were understaffed. There was just one person responsible for the check-in, the bar, and the incoming phones. Which sometimes lead to queuing at the bar ;-)

A decent hotel - clean with a decent buffet meal service that was not overly expensive. Having booked the hotel to include a Spa, we were disappointed too ind that this was not included and also that the spa was limited with regards to times of access. Do not choose rooms to the front of the properties their is a lot of traffic noise. The rooms are not sound insulated and as such you can hear everything as well.

We have been there a couple of times, both with discount coupons, for a night, with buffet dinner and breakfast, and spa. It's really cheap with the coupon, and the quality is good. It's not the hilton, obviously, but the room is clean, beautiful, good views. The food is good. The spa is good. The place is good, so you can go up in the Gorbea mountain, and the have a relax in the spa and dinner. Now, the negative things: the walls are not very good, so you can hear a lot of noise from the next rooms (and the TV volume limit is very low, because of this). The dinner was ok, but it has few quantity of food to choose (salad, soup, and 3 mains), and if you are vegetarian, you can only eat the salad (like us). The breakfast is nice, but we missed natural juice, and any non-cow milk. And the spa is ok, but when we were there the second time, it was full of people. But overall, it's nice, and we would recommend it to everyone

You hear the next or other rooms visits to the toilet, extremely noisy, while the environment is quiet and beautiful. Staff is kind and helpful. Overpriced!
