“Cheap but not cheerful”
This hotel was a nightmare - arrived in room which was very small and the bathroom ceiling was leaking - called reception up and Basil Fawlty arrived. He said we would be ok as it was the people upstairs showering and as we would be gone in the morning it would only leak if they showered again! Has to be better than this in Pontevedra.
“Extremely cold showers, even at the maximum heat capacity.”
This frustrated me so much, I downloaded trip advisor just to leave this review and to let people know The shower in the rooms are extremely cold, even at a maximum of heat. I have not been able to take a shower during my stay because they limit the heat of the water so much. Right now, the shower is at a maximum heat, yet is spraying some of the coldest water I've ever seen come out of a shower head. This is not a Mexican thing, as I have been traveling around Mexico with my partner for weeks and this is the first time this has happened. The prices may be cheaper for hotel rooms here, but it comes at a cost. Expect not to shower in CityExpress Hoteles, unless you enjoy very cold showers. It's a disappointment really, as being on holiday in Mexico it's necessary tourists shower and are clean and removing the built up sweat through the traveling they may be doing. If your partner, children or family are expecting a shower here, just know it will be very cold, even at a maximum. I hope the hotel can read this and change this for their next customers, it's ridiculous how a shower at full heat can be so freezing.
“Poor”
Very outdated hotel. Good location. The bathroom was nightmare. A strange window right in the bathtub. No air condition and the room was really hot. The room door lock was broken. However, the staff was very friendly and even put a air column to refresh the room. The food from the restaurant was very nice. One night there is more than enough.
“Beside the old town.”
Review from my Mam and Dad who stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is on the southside of the old town. The area is buzzing with people in cafes and on the paths chatting and having their drinks. It's also close to all the sights. The reception is a small desk at the entrance in front of the lift and stairs. The receptionist speak perfect English and are very friendly and helpful. Check-in was straight forward. NOTE: This is a Camino hotel so mid afternoon there may be a queue at reception. Also early morning you may hear people moving about some more noisy than others as they think everyone else are not on holidays and need to be up too.. There is a small lift or if you feel fit a stairs to your room. The room overlooking the street had wooden parquet flooring, a large wardrobe, a normal double bed, a single armchair and a desk/table for the flat screen TV. The TV had no English channels but did have some music channels. The bathroom was a nice size with a strong hot shower in the bath. The shower curtain was not fit for purpose as water escaped on to the floor. A nice looking feature but potentially dangerous, a window porthole over the bath. It fully rotates open. This is the only ventilation in the bathroom and you are dissuaded from opening it during showering as you will wet people on the street which actually happened to my mother. It also gathers water from the shower. A hair dryer is available at reception and you are advised to leave your key at reception when leaving the hotel. Overall an old hotel in a perfect area of Pontevedra that may not suit holidaymakers because of the early morning noises from the pilgrims. It suits pilgrims perfectly. Pontevedra is a lovely city to spend a few days. We completed a 5hr35 (21km) circuit that we downloaded from wikiloc. There is also a 14km historical walk visiting sites as old as 2500 years ago.
“Very Bad”
We stayed while walking Portuguese Camiño. All is very bad except the location! The bed, old decoration, cleaning, expensive, everything. The room and the toilet has a lot of problems! Holes, risks, ... Do not deserve any cent payed.
“Not particularly pleasant hotel but good location!”
This hotel is like walking into the 1970's! It is in desperate need of renovation and that includes the rooms! The beds and bedside tables were particularly old and unpleasant! It didn't smell badly - which was an improvement on some of the hotels we stayed in but it didn't feel particularly clean. The shower was powerful and that is probably my only positive apart from that the location was very good - very accessible to everything in the area.
