“King of el Castell”
Restored old house just beneath the castle and church. Quiet location, but only 50 metres from public parking area (rare in old town of Valderrobres). Rooms are odd shapes but spacious, most with views. Well equipped bathrooms. All very clean. Desk only staffed early evening (it's outpost of Fonda de la Plaza) but staff very nice and helpful.
“Great Hotel”
Valderrobres is a great little town and we enjoyed our stay at El Castell. Although in a building hundreds of years old, our rooms were modern and clean (actually very cool!). The hotel is in a great location - right across the street from the old church, castle, and museum. We walked down to the main square for drinks and dinner each night and the uphill walk back did us good :) The breakfast was nice. In addition to the buffet, they will cook you eggs or an omelette to order. We found the staff friendly and helpful and would definitely stay here again.
“Well appointed hotel in Valderrobres”
The hotel has much higher quality appointments than I was expecting. Service was excellent, with staff having some English. It is is the old town part of Valderrobres, so the streets are narrow/impossible for car access. Best way to get there is not rely on Google Maps! Instead navigate around the edge of the town to a car park about 200 m above the hotel (near the castle). Then walk down to the hotel
“Lovely hotel in a beautiful town”
We loved this hotel. It's situated up by the church and castle, with free parking in the square just round the corner. The hotel has been beautifully restored with lovely stone walls and beams. Our room was stylish and comfortable and the large walk in hydro massage shower was fantastic. There's a fridge in the room with a bottle of water included. Soft sheets and towels. Breakfast was delicious and served in a gorgeous room. Good selection of teas, coffee, OJ, fruit (bananas, peaches, kiwis, apples and even delicious fresh cherries!), yoghurt, eggs made to order, croissants, ham, cheese, pastries, etc. For 7 euros extra we thought it was good value. Maite on the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Valderrobres is a lovely town too, and we hope to return one day and stay at Hotel El Castell again.
“Lovely friendly hotel”
We stayed here during a tour of parts of Aragon. It was a nice surprise after quite a search around the old town of Valderrobres and was tucked away right at the highest point by the old castle. We found some parking which was a bit of luck and walked down a lovely cobbled street to the hotel entrance. A warm smiling face met us at reception and could not have been more helpful, whilst apologising at her English (much better than our Spanish). The rooms were comfortable and featured rather stylish use of the old beams and walls. The bathroom and shower was also well equipped with a good walk-in shower area. In the evening we were well directed to a local restaurant which we followed by a walk along the river (seeing a heron in the process),. Breakfast the following day was again very well presented and with the same smiling hard working lady in attendance. This hotel was a good find and well worth remembering if you are in this attractive corner of Spain.
“Budget hotel services,Michelin guide prices”
Not quite what we expected at all. The hotel was fine, but certainly overpriced. Thin sheets and towels, dirty toilet brushes and a poor breakfast selection aside , it was the service which surprised me. For that price, I don't expect to have to punch a code at the main door to let myself in at 10pm because there are no staff, have no way of making or getting a coffee or tea or beer and no way of asking for an extra pillow, for example. Maybe they should put a vending machine in the reception area, but this might just detract from the idea of a charming hotel.
