Hotel España Ocean Drive

Conveniently located to La Rambla, airport and cruise terminal, this newly renovated hotel has a beautiful lobby, bar and rooms that are clean, friendly and safe. The value is excellent as is the staff. I appreciated the doorman and concierge.

The hotel is under renovation (March ‘26) so facilities were limited. The staff were friendly enough however we booked a deluxe room, 4th floor (highest floor) to the front. We stayed there for 3 nights & we had little to no sleep due to the noise from the street below., which by night 3 was exhausting. I can’t underestimate how loud it was! The hotel is located down one of the narrow streets off The Ramblas, which, whilst this is very central, meant noise could be heard all through the night, like till about 5am from drunks, screams, fights, & disturbances. Then from 6am the garbage trucks & construction. We have stayed in many cities, inc NYC, & they were quieter this this! When asked about our stay, we mentioned the hotel being nice however the noise really impacted our visit & they just shrugged in response, as if they receive this comment often. I did ask on the 1st night if we could move to an inner courtyard room but the hotel advised ‘no space’ Second of all please note that the toilet & shower area has no door between the bathroom & sleeping area. There is a glass door as a partition but you have no privacy of sound - do bear that in mind if you’re sharing. If I was to visit Barcelona again I wouldn’t choose a hotel as close to The Ramblas, as it’s not such a nice area at night & can be extremely noisy. Lastly hotel, perhaps due to being under renovation, did not feel 4 star - slow lift, dark, small reception - it felt nearer 3.5 at best.

The hotel was so friendly from the minute they held open the door. Tiberio was so welcoming. I mentioned that I was celebrating a birthday and was later informed of a gift waiting for me. I wonderful drink from their beautiful bar. The hotel had just gone through a major renovation and is stunningly beautiful. Our room is fabulous and spotless. Bed is large and comfortable. Drapes are heavy and blockout all street lights. Location is excellent. Easy walking around the Gothic Quarter. Close to mass transit as well. Lots of great shops and restaurants. The breakfast is also a plus. Staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

The hotel is ideally located next to a Metro station and Les Rambles, although reasonably quiet at night. The hotel staff are friendly and very attentive. We had a nice big room with a balcony. The bathrooms were very clean but I didn’t like the clear glass of the non-privacy doors. The bed was comfy with nice clean bedding, nice towels and a kettle. Gladly stay here again.

We had a nice time with all the friendly people working there! Everything was new and nicely clean. Breakfast was great. Rooms and bed were super comfortable. We will come back.

Staff was attentive and friendly. Hotel was very clean. Shower was great, better than home! No shortage of towels and they had nice thick robes. When we come back to Barcelona, we will definitely stay here again. Location was an easy walk to so many places to eat, see and drink good coffee. Also, the art and ambiance of the hotel was most beautiful.
