“A dreadful place. Worst ever experience. Avoid at all costs”
The best

A dreadful place which was not as described. No one on site. No hot water. The cistern for the WC was faulty and to be operated by lifting the lid off to reposition the float. The TV did not work as it seemed to have no signal connected. The so called swimming pool was like a septic tank and was an obvious health hazard as it swarmed with flies.

“Nightmare”
The best

The building was closed when we arrived despite promised 24/7 reception. Contact phone number not answered. Only got in after a neighbour phoned someone. No pool, cafe, breakfast. Leg on bed and lock broken. Had booked for 2 nights but left after1. Room we got was not the one booked. Information on website does not reflect the reality. Worst hotel we have ever stayed in: book elsewhere, Ronda well worth a visit

“awful rooms with terrible service although location is great”
The best

This is one of the worst accommodations I've ever had (including in hostels when I was a student). This is not a hotel, definitely not a three star hotel as they stated themselves on Tripadvisor. It's just a cheap (not in price but in level of service) and dirty apartments. It was very easy to get the key, the girl was already waiting for us near the building. The first impression was ok, we were ready to see the historical building, not a modern hotel. By the way - on making reservation on Booking you can choose type of the room - with a view on mountains, on the city or at the swimming pool. I made a special request - not a room with view at the swimming pool. Normally there is always lots of noise around them and I wanted to have a good rest. The request was confirmed but on arrival I got a room number 13 with a view exactly on the swimming pool. Luckily it was mid-September and no one was there. The bathroom was ok - recently renovated, huge, with a bathtub and a shower. The only "but" that we found later was that toilet feed was regulated to about 1 (!) liter. We had to press the button about 10 times to get the effect. This is not an economy, on the contrary - it's a waste of water. Ten litres were used and not the standard 6 litres that work perfectly. The room itself was very dark. It's not small, but as it's long and narrow you had to move a lot. The kitchenette is a disaster: a small pan and a pot with no lid, some plates and cups - definitely not enough to cook. But what surprised me most is that there was no hot water in the kitchenette. On the photo you can see that the tube for hot water was disconnected. Another try for economy? Luckily I hadn't planned to cook there but it is a huge disappointment to find such a treatment. All the furniture was old, dirty and broken. On the photos you can see a broken leg of the bed, a footmark on the sofa, a pathetically small and old wardrobe, bedside lamps without switches. All surfaces were covered with dust, same thing with the floor. The floor is awful - all tiles near beds and the door are broken to pieces. Every time you walk you have to balance trying not to fall. No way to wear high heels there or allowing a child to walk there alone - it's a sure way to traumatize oneself seriously. But the worst thing was the bed linen - yellow-greyish, with bad smell and incredibly wrinkled - no sign of ironing. Unfortunately we arrived on Friday, all other hotels were fully booked so there was no way to change the accomodation. We had to phone the reception, ask them to come and bring us clean bed sheets. A girl arrived in about 20 minutes, made some photos confirming that this was unacceptable and brought us some bed sheets that were a little better - still not white and with strong smell of washing powder but at least somehow ironed - that gave us some hope of hygiene. We changed them ourselves. If a maid could have put such linen I didn't want her services. The worse thing happened next day when we returned in the evening after a day trip around Ronda. This "hotel" doesn't have cards that are always provided in normal hotels on a door knob: one side is green which means "please clean the room" and the other one is red which means "please do not disturb, we don't need any service". So we concluded that as in many apartments the cleaning is provided only after check out, before check in of the other guest or upon a special request. But it occurred that in this so to say hotel they think it is normal to enter any room any time without any special authorisation or request. We found out that someone entered our room and did the following: closed the window, closed the toilet lid, changed the bed linen (!) and rearranged some of our staff. Imagine our emotions! The garbage bin remained untouched. The bed linen was worse than the one we put on arrival and the beds where very untidy. I couldn't find my pajamas that was finally found stucked between two mattresses. I called the reception and they told me that that's the way the work - enter every day and do what they think is appropriate for maintenance. Closing windows that were left open on a hot sunny day to let some fresh air, changing one-day linen, rearranging guests' staff to make it tidy and leaving the garbage untouched. It was Saturday, so when I told them that I want to talk with the manager they said that he would contact me on Monday. I'm writing this review exactly one week after that terrible weekend - no has still one contacted me. One more disappointment is complete lack of soundproofing. In spite of the fact that walls are very thick you can hear yawning in the neighbouring room. The door and window are awful, there are lots of space between walls and the door - all the noise from the hall and patio could be heard in the room. I think it's awfully cold in the room with the door and the window in such a bad state. By the way the hall of the "hotel" needs a good cleaning - old dirty carpet and lots of dust everywhere. The only reason I've chosen this accommodation is it's wonderful location - very close to everything, in quite a tranquil neighbourhood. The place itself is nice - it just needs a complete renovation, good soundproofing, good laundry service and setting normal policy in terms of cleaning and access of the staff to the room.

“Definitely, a place to stay!”
The best

Our trip to Ronda was a “last minute escape”, leaving us with a really limited offer in hotels… luckily we’ve found “La ciudad”: an Andalusian oasis located in the old town of Ronda. The hotel is a reformed epoch house, with an indoor “patio” and a small outside pool. The apartment offers a great area, but don’t count in cooking there… there is a lack of utensils and, actually, you cannot call it, properly, a kitchen: is just a small counter with microwave and some tea/coffee amenities, but… who wants to cook having in mind the great Andalusian gastronomy?! Definitely, a place to stay!

“An island of peace in an ideal location”
The best

We booked at short notice, when most places were full, for a one-night stay. I do not admire lush hotels, so was very pleased with the low-key style. Only the cleaner was there to receive us, which she did efficiently and helpfully. It is a miniature conversion of an ancient house and the buildings around a little courtyard, with a small and very cool pool, precious even in early October. Though late in the season the paintwork was immaculate, the room clean, the small but adequate kitchen unit just like new. Outside crowds blundered around this, the oldest part of the town; inside only occasional church bells could be heard. Breakfast was only available at the related restaurant a few minutes' walk away in the main town, and would be best negotiated by Spanish speakers. The menu is totally local, so if this is a big part of your routine it may be best to go to another of the many restaurants in town. This was our second visit to Ronda (by train from Malaga - do try it!) and we reckon discovering the apartamentos is a real bonus. It is not just in the best area for sightseeing, it is a sight in itself. On the other hand if you want people to be on hand to offer services and provide meals, an hotel would be better. We walked from the station, about 1.5 km, which is fine if you take your time. Ideal for independent travellers.

“Unsatisfactory”
The best

Stayed with group as regular hotel booked. Girl arrived late to let us in & no one on site (no room for our guide) when we had no electricity & shower flooded bathroom. Guy came & fixed it but wasted whole afternoon. No water in bidet. A few blocks from town so thought would be quiet on Fri nite but someone had party nearby til 2am. Had to walk a good 10 mins in the dark at 7 am for "included" breakfast. Good coffee but had to ask for egg & orange as otherwise was just bread. 3 keys & everyone had problems with them. Little pool, big room, nice deck & interesting old house but would not stay there again. Ronda can be done in 1 hour with a few pics of the gorge. Would have preferred another day in Granada. Also cold!
