“Fantastic place”

The best

I’d actually rate 4 and 1/2! This was a terrific location & option to get out of the hustle & bustle. Beautiful, homely & serene place, clean & you could park nearby. I only took half a point off because I had emailed requesting to have dinner at the hotel, but I think they may not have checked & whilst they did provide us a lovely meal, I don’t feel it was worth the $$$ (however my husband loved it). So just ensure you confirm dinner reservation. Breakfast was fabulous. I would definitely visit again!

“Lovely mountain village retreat”

The best

We had a very pleasant stay here with Frank & Angela who were delightful hosts. Room was comfortable, food was excellent. We ate in the hotel on two nights and both meals were delicious. Frank was very knowledgeable on what to do in the area and the hotel was a good base for day trips out and about. You do need a car however, unless you like hiking!

“Outstanding place to stay”

An outstanding place to stay, up in the mountains. Spent a week at Los Castanos where Frank is a superb host and chef. Friendly atmosphere throughout our stay, couples and families, various ages and nationalities. The breakfasts prepared with care and top quality products kept us going all day, returning to enjoy varied and very tasty evening dinners, all prepared by Frank. Tip: let him know in advance if you’ll be wanting dinner so he can shop and cook accordingly. Rooms are light, airy and well looked after, ours was sunny with views over the village roofs and the mountains. Beds and armchairs very comfortable, bathrooms simple with everything you need. Cartajima is a lovely village worth exploring – look out for the clever murals everywhere and walk out to the springs (signed) to understand how people had to get their water in past times. We visited in April-May and walked every day: wildflowers superb and many, many different birds singing. A paradise for both. Frank and online walking apps will help you find the ways to go. Autumn is another good time to visit when the chestnuts trees are golden.

“Fantastic stay!”

The best

Overnight stop with family. We had 2 amazing rooms, next door to each other with balconies overlooking the mountains. (Rooms 2&3) Very comfortable bed too. Sitting on the roof terrace, listening to the birds with amazing views of the mountains and the church...wonderful. My mobility isn't great but we were able to park on the street really close to the entrance of the hotel. We paid for the three course evening meal and it was excellent. The owners are really friendly and look after you. You will not be disappointed if you book a stay here.

The best

One of the best places I've ever stayed - the village is idyllic and the hotel is totally charming. Frank's food is exceptional, the roof terrace is perfect, lots of good hikes from the door. Already planning to return!

“Exceptional”

Family run hotel with lots of carefully thought through details. We arrived on a cold evening in April, Sam was kind enough to show us the entire place and then he lit a fireplace which made it the whole experience soooo cosy!! We chose to eat dinner there and were surprised with the quality and taste we got on our 3 course meal! Breakfast was equally good, the child play area was fantastic and the beds were also extremely comfortable. This small village is a good alrernate/escape after spending a s Day in Ronda.
