“Disappointing Monopol stay”
So disappointed in our recent trip to the Monopol hotel. We had a room where the bed was hard up against the wall meaning we had to climb over each other to get into bed. We had no hot water to shower/wash with in the morning. The corridor lighting was not functioning making it very dark and difficult to locate key pad. The cost of one night stay was 117 euros making very poor value given the room. Reception staff could do nothing without Manager's approval and email response from Manager was dismissive. The hotel is fabulously well located but aspects of it are in need of updating.
“Great traditional hotel”
A great traditional hotel in a superb location. We stayed in room 312 which has a great view of the church clock tower and tiede in the distance with plenty of restaurants close by. The room was spacious if a little tired. A good choice of breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful.
“Excellent location but so noisy”
Located close to the sea front and also the main square but is positioned on a pedestrianised street and opposite a church . We were allocated a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the street. Unfortunately the noise from outside was incessant from morning till night .Buskers{of varying quality} were playing all day and the church clock chimed every quarter hour from 7-00 am till 11-00 pm, As the room had little soundproofing it became unbearable. We requested a move to a quieter room at the rear of the hotel which they agreed to .It was less noisy there but street sounds still penetrated the room. The hot is quaint but quite dated .No A/C and I think the towels issued were almost as old as the hotel !! A bit like the hotel they we very worn and frayed. So would we stay there again ? Sorry, no. There is a wide selection of accommodation to choose from in Puerto so we would pick a more modern one meeting todays requirements.
“BED BUGS !”
"WARNING BED BUGS!" First room smelt like damp and open drains. Asked to be changed this was done but took hours. 2nd room seemed fine till just after check out started discovering bed bug bites all over myself. Looking back at reviews I'm not the only one. Do not stay here!
“Lovely hotel, exceptional value.”
We booked a last minute budget break and for the price did. ot expect anywhere near the quality of hotel we got with the monopol. perfectly located in a lovely district, several terraces and pool with bar and tapas right outside. Staff very friendly and the standard of cleaning was exceptional - our room was visited every day with beds made and towels replenished, and a general tidy up. No coffee facilities in room but we didn't stay in the room long, and there is an on site cafe/bar. Breakfast was amazing - huge choice of cooked, pastries, cerea, meats and cheeses plus fruit salads. No hurry either as the breakfast window is 7.30 to 10.30 and no rush to make you leave at 10.30. This is not a super-modern boutique hotel, it is a traditional old hotel but it is lovely, and the standards are very high - I would have expected to pay double what I actually paid for somewhere like this. I would definitely stay here again and the only reason I can think of for not recommending it, is to make sure it stays a best-kept-secret for when we want to come back :-).
“Beautiful Puerto”
Second visit to this Hotel. The staff were so friendly and obliging, the room was spotlessly clean, good breakfast, lovely location, altogether very comfortable. Typically Canarian building, would recommend it to all. Easy access to all transport facilities and only 10 minutes walk to the beautiful Martinez Lido where they have excellent facilities for disabled visitors. Main attractions easily reachable by foot. I hired a mobility scooter for two weeks at a very reasonable cost delivered to the hotel and collected on the last day of my holiday. It helped me explore the town and beaches in much more detail. My favourite places were the Lido and Martinez Beach where I could watch the Surfers and Hang Gliders.
