“Small hotel bit different from what we’re used to”
Overall, I think this hotel is very standard the area itself which is where we wanted to stay is absolutely brilliant bars restaurants you’re on the beach really couldn’t get any better. When we arrived I wouldn’t say it was the best greeting quite formal luckily we booked a Seaview room but the balcony was very small and nowhere to hang wet towels or wet costumes so had to hang them around the room really. The most disappointing was the bathroom as there is a shower curtain to prevent water going onto wet floors as we found out the shower curtain stuck to you when you were in the shower and the shower was facing outwards instead of at the side so you couldn’t really stand under it properly. My partner slipped one day and actually hurt his side which didn’t need hospital treatment thankfully, but was bruised all week.. The one thing I picked up on with all the reviews is the breakfast luckily there is a microwave because the breakfast is stone cold and the eggs. The fried eggs are swimming in yellow grease the bacon floating in fat the bread and pastries were adequate but we love a cooking section where you can have an omelette or poached eggs unfortunately this doesn’t exist and for a four star hotel we were very disappointed The room itself is adequate. There’s several English channels to watch especially in the mornings. We always take a kettle with us and cups and provide ourselves with coffee and tea as we wake up early and the breakfast isn’t open till 730 which is reasonably early but if you’re waking earlier than that, you need a drink. We had an issue with returning our tickets as a receipt was requested and I don’t actually think we got a receipt or we didn’t wait for a receipt so the €20 we would supposed to be getting back we didn’t very annoying. Overall I would say it’s a base the sister hotel next door is very good but the sunbeds are always reserved and it was very busy. The food serving at lunchtime and evening was very expensive and pretty poor. That’s just our opinion. Would we return not this hotel but the area itself as I’ve said is absolutely amazing we love it here
“In my opinion no way its a 4 star”
The food was cold, no pool bar, no hotel bar. the steps leading up to the foyer are very steep. Cant get into the hotel next door from the sea end due to a security gate that would not open with our card.
“Location great.. that’s it.”
This was my third TUI holiday in 12 months, and I’ve now spent around £7,000 on what were all advertised as 4-star hotels. Having recently stayed at the Riu Costa del Sol, which truly delivered a 4-star experience, I was left very disappointed by the standards at the MS Tropicana. From the outset, I was struck by the fact that no 4-star plaque was displayed at the entrance. Nearby hotels, including those with a lower rating such as 3-star properties, proudly show theirs. The absence here raises the question: on what basis has this hotel been classed as 4-star? The accommodation itself did not meet expectations. My room felt dated, more in line with a 2-star property, and had an adjoining door which compromised privacy. Basic amenities such as tea and coffee facilities were missing, which I would consider a given for a hotel at this rating. I took my own, safe you have to pay for. The balcony view was also poor, dominated by a large, disused extractor fan, and further spoiled by dust and debris falling from the balcony above. Overall, I found the experience to be well below the standard promised. Having experienced the quality at the Riu Costa del Sol earlier this year, the difference was stark. I would like TUI to explain how the MS Tropicana has been awarded a 4-star rating and why it is marketed in the same category as properties that clearly exceed it in comfort, facilities, and overall guest experience. You can use the sister hotel, but the internal doors were locked till 10.30 am, so you’d have to do a complete walk around to main entrance to get in earlier. Breakfast is diabolical. One huge flag was no fire escape, one way in and out reception only… The only positive was great location, and the nice smell that greeted you at reception. It could be a fantastic hotel, having been built in 1960 with a refurbishment in 2004, it’s substandard next to the rest of the hotel’s available.
“Walk in shower”
We are staying in this Hotel next month, I have emailed about availability for a walk in shower. Can you comment on this please
“So So Hotel”
Knew this was going to be quite basic. It's clean and the fridge in the room is good. There are no tea making facilities in the room though, which made it awkward first thing in the morning and late at night, being basically non alcoholic drinkers. The pillows, as mentioned previously, are very poor. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Warm drinks, coffee awful, food quite bad unless you want cold food. Although information advising NOT to reserve sunbeds, there were 4 reserved by towels .before 8am. Ask the member of staff who was watering the flower beds at that time. The good points....close to the beach, shops and restaurants, Good views of the sun rise Close to the much better hotel Amaragua...that's about all really
