“The facility is great and the staff is excellent”
We just had one of those trips where things go sideways. It happens. I would like to give a huge compliment / “Shout out” to the staff at the hotel. The front desk was awesome when my wife’s wallet got stolen on the metro. The gentleman at the front desk couldn’t have been more helpful in what to do next and how to get things resolved. In addition, we had also forgotten a couple of items in the hotel room in the flurry of trying to catch a flight. Again, on the way back we stopped in at the hotel and talked to the Saint John, who had stored the items we had left behind and couldn’t have been more helpful yet again. The hotel is really nice but it is the staff that makes it a wonderful place.
“Fabulous stay in Madrid!”
The hotel was in a really great position. Just outside of the city centre but within walking distance of so many places. Everything we wanted to see was within 30 minutes walking of the hotel. The hotel was spotless. The rooms were comfy - the beds were ENORMOUS! We slept very well despite being right at the front of the hotel by the Toledo Gate. It was extremely quiet. We didn’t have breakfast included but the bar downstairs did croissants and coffee, which we had one morning; it was really reasonable and the coffee was the best we had in the city! There was a buffet breakfast at the hotel but we didn’t visit. We didn’t have the rooms cleaned for sustainability and as a reward, we got free drink tickets. The bar served alcohol but didn’t appear to be open that late. Staff were really friendly, both behind the desk, in the bar and cleanings staff on the floor we stayed on. Great value and a great stay!
“Not as good as it looks”
Not a good experience. We booked for us and our 32 months old son. They gave us a baby cot, dangerous as the kid can climb out of it and hurts himself. We asked to help us finding a solution. The receptionist was extremely rude, saying we haven't booked for a family room and he would not do anything about it. He didn't give us chance even to talk, as we were willing to pay the difference to have a family room. They don't clean the room. Simple like that's dust everywhere. If you leave crumbs on the floor in the morning, you find them when you come back. Complaining with the manager didn't solve the issue. We found water and glasses when we arrived. But they took it off after!! Who does that?! It appeared again when we complain about the cleanliness. We found the sink almost blocked and smelling of sewage. That has been sorted out quite well. Breakfast is of a good standard. We won't be back for sure.
“Excellent option for a short stay near Puerta de Toledo”
Nice hotel with helpful staff close to Puerta de Toledo. Nice, clear and quiet room, comfortable bed.
I experienced some minor wifi issue. all the rest was fine.
“Very pleasant stay”
Stayed 3 nights to compare the city and watch football. Really good stay. Room was comfortable and quiet, good shower and nice bed. Cleaned room lovely each day even late one day after we had a lie in! Cafe in lobby bustling with locals - enjoyed the coffees. Breakfast ok - only went once. Good location. A metro right outside and a taxi rank. Easy 15-20 mins walk everywhere. Very good stay.
“Good location and budget friendly”
A good size hotel located on a busy road junction about a 15-20 minute walk to the historic centre of Madrid, I was initially a bit concerned about traffic noise but needn’t have worried as I was in a room facing an internal courtyard. That said, it may have been different if I had been facing the road. I went for a single room as I was on my own, and this was indeed a small room with a single bed pushed up against the wall on one side. It was fine for the couple of nights that I was there, but there was certainly no room to spread out, and there was no view at all with other hotel rooms all facing the window and the merest glimpse of sky if you managed to get your head at just the right angle. The room was all clean and tidy though, and facilities included a TV, safe and a (empty) ‘fridge although no mini-bar and no tea/coffee making facilities. There was a “welcome gift” consisting of a bottle of filtered water which I thought was taking the gift concept a bit far to be honest, when pretty much every other hotel supplies bottled mineral water as standard. Not only that but there were dire warnings about the fine you would get if your took the bottle away with you. The shower was decent enough, hot and powerful, but again very much on the small side and you had to be very careful not to knock the control valve when turning around. The air-con didn’t appear to work with no noticeable change in temperature regardless of what I set it to. Breakfast was an entirely help yourself buffet affair, and covered most bases although it was certainly nothing to get excited about. Choices included cold meats, pastries, fruit, hot food and so on, but the hot food options were rather limited, small spicy chorizo type sausages instead of proper bangers and only scrambled eggs, not fried. Green beans and rice also seemed a very odd thing to serve at breakfast. The fruit was a very limited selection and served in small cardboard pots with a plastic lid which seemed very environmentally un-friendly, whilst the (very runny, plain) yoghurt was served from some sort of dispensing machine. A pancake maker was an unusual feature, although I did not try the results. Overall, it did the job, but I wouldn’t want to eat there for more than a couple of days. Overall, a pretty good location, quiet and budget friendly, but not somewhere to go if you want to treat yourself.
