“Lack of menu choices for groups and inflexibility of the hotel/restaurant.”
I stayed at Hotel Saylu for 3 days with a group of over 25 people. We were given a very long list of food choices and asked to select choices in advance of our stay, which everyone did. However, 4 days before the start of the holiday, the hotel asked us to select the same one choice for everyone for the starter, main course and dessert for each of the 3 days. Despite strong objections to this change, the hotel was absolutely inflexible and insisted that this was hotel policy for groups. Prior to this, when my husband and 3 others stayed at the Hotel they had a selection of 3 or 4 items for each course. It appears from this comparison that the Hotel is biased against groups and I would definitely not recommend it. Other points are that the Hotel advertised that they provided a hair dryer and mini bar in the room. However, none of the rooms had a mini bar and only 2 even had a refrigerator. However, hair dryers were provided on request from reception. Plugs were also missing from the basins and baths and some of these were provided when requested. Good points were that the rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable and the staff on reception did their best to help.
“Budget Hotel Outside of the City with Nice Breakfast”
My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights at the Saylu Hotel, which is outside of Granada city centre. Many hotels in the city centre were booked out for Semana Santa and the remaining hotels available did not have ensuite bedrooms so we booked to stay here. I am glad because staying close to the festivities in the city would have driven me crazy! Saylu Hotel was a 40 minute journey from the bus station using public transport and there is a bus, the S2, a short walk from the hotel, which brings you to the city centre in less than 20 minutes. The La Alhambra is a very short taxi drive away for a little under €8. The hotel is basic and a bit dated as mentioned in other reviews. It was, however, very clean. The receptionist and cleaning staff were all very friendly. A breakfast buffet is available at €4.50 / person and we enjoyed our breakfast and the amount of choice. Our bedroom did not have air conditioning or a fridge. The room did get very hot at night and my boyfriend did not want to sleep with the window open as there was too much noise from the motorway. I would suggest to guests coming in spring and certainly in the summer to insist that they get a room with AC and a fridge when making a booking. There is nothing much of interest in the area around the hotel, except for possibly the huge shopping centre. The hotel is much much cheaper during off peak seasons and I am sure the price is what makes it very attractive. For a budget hotel, it ticks all the boxes.
“Hotel Saylu - unable to deliver the basics!”
First morning of our stay, there was no hot water due to issue with water heater in hotel. Second day, when I finally got to take a shower, the shower hose fell apart and we had water pouring out all over the place. The safe didn’t work for the whole duration of our stay, and receptionist advised that it needed batteries but eventually they discovered it was broken so they had to manually open and close it for us each time we needed to access it. Air conditioning didn’t work properly for no apparent reason. Shabby, old fashioned rooms and very run down exterior. When I complained to reception staff upon departure, I was told there was nothing they could do for me, regardless of my list of complaints which they had been notified of throughout the stay. Had there been any other accommodation available, I’d have moved on day two, but being a busy bank holiday, meant there was nothing available, so I was stuck there! The only redeeming factor was that the cleaners did a decent job daily. Very unsatisfactory stay!
“Hotel Saylu Granada”
The hotel is easy to get to by car and we had no issues parking right outside. The hotel is on the outskirts of town, but there's a shopping mall not too far away across the road and a few restaurants within easy walking distance. The centre is about a 40 minute walk. Welcome from reception was friendly. Room is basic and clean and does have air con (Although not the best, it was ok) , a fridge (again not super cold but better than nothing) , and some basic toiletries are supplied in the bathroom. On arrival our room smelt slightly smoky but quickly went away on opening the window for a while. The bed was pretty comfy but the pillow was a bit odd - one long pillow that spans both sides of the double bed. Breakfast was simple but sufficient - cereal, yoghurt, meat and cheese and a selection of bread. Teas, coffees and orange juice all available too. It is helpfully served from 7.30 until 10.30 am. Overall not a bad place to stay for the price if you are visiting Granada and don't mind a bit of a walk!
“Dated”
Hotel is a bit dated but it reflects on the price. Although it's far from the city center, it's one taxi ride to the Alhambra. Restaurant food is so so including the free breakfast. Parking is very few but I booked during off season so it wasn't much of an issue. Easily accessible through the freeway and close a walking distance to a big mall.
“Good option outside Granada”
Hotel is average, rooms are big and spacious, however should look more on the cleanning part. Good option if you come by car and want to stay away from car unfriendly citycenter and want to have a really good rate. Interesting place but only for short stays.
