Hotel SB Icaria

Great accommodation, 1 little niggle We stayed here for our visit to Barcelona, the room is comfortable but a little dated, mattress was comfortable and clean Niggles, the curtains are not wide enough so lets lots of light in, also because it was still classed as winter you could only operate the air con as heating, yes the window opened but that’s no good when it’s noisy outside, the room was still hot especially during the night and air con would’ve helped a lot, I guess it comes down to cost of operating the air-con but really lets the hotel down in my opinion. The staff were excellent and very welcoming, close to most stuff and close to the beach.

Room was clean, quiet and well equipped. All staff from reception to restaurant were friendly and helpful. Meal in restaurant was good but felt breakfast choices could be improved

Unfortunately, this hotel is really not worth the price. The building is very old and clearly in need of a complete renovation. The bathroom was not clean and did not look hygienic at all. The television is more than 15 years old, and the remote control is correspondingly worn out. Under the sink in the bathroom, it was very dirty. There were black stains on the silicone next to the bathtub, and the toilet flush only works poorly. The walls are extremely thin, so you can hear the television from the neighboring room. There is only one “working” elevator, which often stops at floors that were not selected. The only positive aspect of this hotel was the staff, who were friendly and helpful.

Lets start with the 3 good things about the hotel. Staff is helpful and nice, beds are clean and the rooms are big. But all of this does not really matter when you have a rotten building smelling of mildew, full of water damage and rotten ceilings and furniture. We all know that hotels around the world have different standards, but in this case I felt catfished. The pictures are facelifted too much and very far from the reality. We were travelling to participate in a fair in Fira, so our entire company was booked in here. The first morning I get a panicked message from my colleague, staying in the room next to me that all the electricity is gone from her room and she just got out of the shower with hair that needs a hairdryer. Turns out, water was pouring to the spot lights (and all over her cosmetics) in the bathroom, so the fuse shut the electricity down. We called reception and she got a new room shortly after. As I said, helpful staff (and lucky they were not sold out -unless knowing this is a reoccuring theme they keep some rooms as buffers). Anyways, they did a quick fix as the room was occupied again by the evening - hope the guy didn’t experience the ‘extra shower’ as my colleague did. This hotel needs a huge overhaul or demolition. As a fomer hotelier, sometimes I think Im more critical than the regular traveller. I have worked in different countries and different sized hotels, so I want to point out that staff helpfullness and attitude can carry a hotel stay a long way, but in this case, in my humble opinion, this hotel should not be operating (if you look through the reviews, mine are not the only one with water damage). The breakfast had a wide variety, but low quality. The fresh fruits were super nice.

SB Icaria Barcelona 3 nights, Double or Twin Room €626.62 Decent room, we got upgraded to a jacuzzi room for free, although the room did not have a bidet unfortunately like the one we originally paid for but the jacuzzi was a nice touch Located more or less in El Poblenou and a 2 minute walk from a nice beach and 5-10 mins nice walk to the marina. Good fast connections to other areas by bike too, or by main road to the airport. Some of the areas around the hotel look a bit scuzzy just to be warned Gym is absolute crap and only has a single weight machine and a few dated cardio machines, and is in a separate building next to the pool, meaning people walk in and out wet from the pool to the sauna at the back and everyone can see you from the pool. makes using the gym uncomfortable and the gym is only open during the day time. Spa is crap and has one tiny sauna that looks like a box ticking activity to increase the star rating Unheated pool which is bloody cold except in the middle of summer Windows are decently thick and sealed but you can still hear some noise from the road especially if there is shouting outside. You might need ear plugs. Can hear people walking outside the rooms and doors banging and toilets flusing, but it is definitely not the worse ive had in barcelona. There are no additional doors between the front door and the hotel room. So if someone is talking outside you absolutely hear it. The internet is very very fast (250 mbit download 300mbit upload) which is a nice touch, and also the 5G reception is excellent and i got 200mbit up and down on mobile. It was a decent hotel and we've come back again. Definitely not good value for money which is typical for Barcelona, but it is one of the cheaper options for sure and is decent.

The hotel was AMAZING! Rooms were spacious, clean and comfy. The hotel staff were friendly and super helpful with recommendations! Hotel is super close to the bus stop H16 takes you to the city centre!! If I come back this hotel will be top of the list location is perfection 5 minute walk to the beach with lots of bars and restaurants around!
