“A Spacious Hotel, with lots of Facilities”
Hotel & Spa María Manuela is a beautiful hotel with a rich sense of history and pride in its presentation. It was an ideal base for exploring the Picos de Europa, which are absolutely breathtaking, I only wish we’d had more time to enjoy the area fully. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The bed was a little too soft for my partner, but both our daughter and I slept well. The Wi-Fi was reliable throughout our stay, and the breakfast was a real highlight, an exceptional spread with a huge variety of options to suit all tastes. The spa was a real treat. We used it on both days of our stay, and despite the chlorine being quite strong and quite expensive, it was still a really enjoyable and relaxing experience. The spa staff were friendly and helpful, which added to the overall sense of care in that part of the hotel. We also dined in the hotel restaurant twice. While the food was a bit hit and miss, some dishes were absolutely delicious and the pricing felt fair. The restaurant staff were lovely, especially a friendly waitress and the head of house, who both made us feel warmly welcomed.
While the hotel itself was impressive, the front desk staff didn’t leave the same warm impression. I found it difficult to ask questions, in part due to my own lack of Spanish, but also because the reception staff came across as quite abrupt. It’s entirely possible this was simply a cultural or language difference, but unfortunately it left me feeling uncomfortable and like a bit of a burden. Although our stay had many positives, and the hotel offered a lot, I don’t think I would return. That said, I can see why others might love it, especially with the excellent location, beautiful surroundings, and standout breakfast.

“I would give the hotel a 10/10 if they didn't charge 25 euros for the Crib”
Staff were excellent. Hotel is immaculate. Cool space for kids to play in. Entrecot was massive!
Charging 25 Euros for a babies crib is a robbery.
“Serious maintenance needed to keep place alive”
The staff (besides the front desk man) were pleasant. The masseuse and spa staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff were nice.
There was mold in our room. The front desk man wasn’t polite - gave me and my husband one key to share even though we had brought our daughter and paid for spa treatments - so that made coordination difficult. The pool area was dingy and gross. There focus seemed off - the owner seems to be focused on developing a signature scent of the hotel rather than investing back into maintenance of the property (see photo of mold). They also charged us more than $20 to have a toddler cot. The child play area has awful lighting, all the toys were broken or removed.
“Nature, good breakfast and playroom were good. NOT a 4-star hotel!”
Beautiful surroundings and good breakfast. Kids loved the play room.
Old facilities. We asked the hotel prior if we could charge our electric car at site and they said they have a charger. However, the carger did not work (not operated by the hotel which is many time the case) but they told us when asked that it seldom works. Would have been useful information to have prior the visit and helpfulness of reception could be improved.
“Perfect familiy get away in a lovely hotel, wishing we could go back more often.”
The hotel was located in a marvelous part of Asturias, the drive there was a joy. The premises of the hotel were very nice and well maintained, the building itself was just fantastic, and the rooms were very spacious and clean. We particularly enjoyed how family friendly this hotel was, and how everything that we needed was just there. We had a great time in the lovely spa, and the breakfast was just superb! Highly recommend this place.
Although I need to stress that at no point were we cold, it felt like the rooms could have been a bit warmer. When the heating was on, the rooms were just lovely. However, at night we were wishing the heating was on.
