“Location · Cons: Expensive supper menu. Food was perfectly good but too expensive. Horrible coffee served at breakfast in their dining room and overall indifferent breakfast. The coisssnt and coffee we had for breakfast in their bar on our second day was much better quality”

“Stunning place in the mountains, gorgeous views. Close to a quaint town Onati. Great hiking, we hiked to the eye of Aitzulo, breathtaking, a must! Room was large, bathroom huge. Very comfortable. It is a sanctuary and the church is beautiful and so different. Great architecture. Food delicious. · Cons: The bells ring every 15 minutes but start at 8am and finish at about 9 or 10pm. We were out exploring all day so overnight for sleeping bells are off.”

Stunning place in the mountains, gorgeous views. Close to a quaint town Onati. Great hiking, we hiked to the eye of Aitzulo, breathtaking, a must! Room was large, bathroom huge. Very comfortable. It is a sanctuary and the church is beautiful and so different. Great architecture. Food delicious.

The bells ring every 15 minutes but start at 8am and finish at about 9 or 10pm. We were out exploring all day so overnight for sleeping bells are off.

“Total disappointment, we were put up in an old hotel that was much worse than the one we booked”

On the positive side, we weren’t left stranded completely — the hotel did arrange alternative accommodation nearby on short notice, which at least spared us from spending the night outdoors in the mountains. Though the replacement was a very basic and outdated 1-star hotel, it was something. Additionally, we were offered breakfast — which, at the time, was presented as a small gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience.

We were informed only at 8 p.m. on the day of arrival that due to “technical problems” we’d be moved to another hotel. Already driving through the mountains, we had no real choice. But upon arrival, we were shocked to be placed in a completely inferior 1-star hotel — old, uncomfortable, and far below the standard of the 3-star property we had paid for. The room was tiny, dark, with ancient furniture, no air conditioning, no basic hygiene items, and terrible soundproofing. Late that night, reception staff at Iraipe Santuario de Arantzazu assured us we’d receive a full refund and offered breakfast as a gesture of goodwill, not a substitute for that refund. However, when we followed up, they ignored us for days and then falsely claimed we had agreed to accept breakfast instead of the €70 refund — which is absurd. No one would trade a proper refund for a €20 breakfast, especially after being downgraded so drastically. We were left stranded, disappointed, and misled. The handling of this situation was unprofessional and dishonest. We will not return and strongly advise others to be cautious.
