“Renovated place: new 3 rooms with private bathrooms, 4 shared bathrooms, well-equipped kitchens”
The best

The hostel has been completely renovated: 3–4 new rooms with private bathrooms, 4 shared bathrooms, and more water heaters — so there’s always hot water, even when the place is full. I stayed here last year and fell in love with it. Coming back, I was truly impressed by all the improvements. Check-in and check-out are fully automatic, with all codes and info sent by email. Even if you miss the message (like I did), there's a screen at the entrance showing your name and room — super clear and easy. There are informative signs all around with details about services, excursions, and recommended restaurants. The taxi service is excellent, and there's a convenient bus stop just 3 minutes away, which is perfect if you're traveling without a car or scooter. There are two well-equipped shared kitchens (air fryer, microwave, grill, kettle, blender, etc.). One of them overlooks the mountains — cooking there feels peaceful and connected to nature. This time I stayed in the new 6-bed shared room (the other one has 4): super comfy beds, new sheets and duvets, everything spotless. For those seeking privacy, there are also private rooms with bathrooms — ideal for relaxing surrounded by nature. The atmosphere is calm, and in the morning you can meditate with the sunrise right in front of the yoga platform. And having a quiet coffee in the outdoor gallery, with that view… truly fills you with peace. Big compliments to the owners — it’s clear they’ve invested love and care into making an already perfect place even better.

To be improved

Even though there were a few things to improve last year, I came back because it was already an incredible place. Now, after seeing all the new additions — the 4 shared bathrooms, the 3 new private rooms, and the 2 shared kitchens — I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. The place has become perfect, and I can’t wait to come back again!

A nice property set amongst a beautiful scenery. The food they offer is delicious and highly recommended. Breakfast in the garden is fantastic. A good spot for people looking to hike, bike and explore the nearby nature. Access via public transport can be awkward. Getting to San Mateo is easy with regular buses, and from their either 4km uphill to the hostel (take the side roads). Or a bus runs every 2 hrs ish.

“The most special stay in Gran Canaria”
The best

If you choose just one place to stay in Gran Canaria, it should be La Casita! It is a sanctuary of peace and quiet in the midst of nature in the mountains. The best breakfast and dinner we had on the island, a very cosy atmosphere, indescribable views and a very good sleep. Highly recommended!
