“No Wi-Fi, no hot water. Not fit for purpose. Keep looking.”
Convenient location to central area of Jerez. Ground floor made for easier access with suitcases. It had a washing machine and kitchen was fine.
The living room/kitchen area has all the charm of a dentist's waiting room. Heavy curtain has to be shut all day as the one window looks directly out onto the street, so no privacy. The bedroom has no external window and has a stark white "dental surgery" vibe with no reading lamps, not a chair or a bench to put your suitcase or clothes on - just a bed, two little cheap side tables and a cupboard with 3 coat hangers! The bathroom cabinets are falling apart, as is the curtain between the window beside the toilet and a common terrace area, so no natural light, unless you want all the neighbours to say hi while you are showering. And when they say terrace, they mean a big slab of concrete between a series of rooms, nothing else. The Wi-Fi didn't work, even though we tried all 5 routers/passwords we were advised about after complaining. And then there is the hot water service. We had read, prior to booking, that there was a problem with the HWS and enquired, to be advised it was being attended to. The managing agent sent in a maintenance person promptly when we said them we had no hot water; they said it had been switched off and turned it on. The problem was that when the thermostat kicks in, it sounds like there is a Boeing 747 taking off in the room next to you! We had to turn it off again immediately. Then there are the numerous guys that are living in the same facility who come in and out all night, ringing the doorbells of all the rooms until someone lets them in. Really relaxing, not. We moved out early and advised the letting agent but somehow they still didn't get it. No Wi-Fi, hot water service unusable, dodgy neighbours. And the photo looks nothing like our accommodation. Sorry, but hanging a cheap painting of Buddha on the bathroom wall does not make a place cool.
“To continue what I was writing--the stay at this place was terrifying.”
The actual apartment was just fine: clean, comfortable and fairly well-equipped.
It was not ready until after we arrived--and we arrived hours later than expected. We waited outside in the courtyard while the cleaners worked. They were courteous and helpful, but we waited about 30 minutes outside in the courtyard with all of our stuff when they worked. What was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE was not the apartment itself but the courtyard outside which was shared by all apartments--I think there were some apartments occupied long-term that were not rented to tourists--that's just a hunch. Our window looked out onto the fairly small courtyard, as did the entry door. During the night there was a group of men presumably in one of the apartments in the back. My hunch is that at least one of the lived there. They were shouting and arguing--one fellow was constantly shouting on and on very violently. I would guess that some heavy drug was involved as he sounded deranged. There was one bed in our apartment and I let my friend take it since she had a flight in the morning. I slept in the pull-out couch-bed that was actually quite comfortable, in the living room. My friend went to sleep in the bedroom--no windows--at the back and has a noise cancelling headphones, so didn't hear anything. I however was in the living room with the door and a window onto the courtyart. As the shouting became more violent and went on for at least two hours, well beyond midnight, I was increasingly afraid as the window was low and pretty accessible to the courtyard and the door was a combination keypad with a combo that was known at least by the cleaners and therefore others. As the shouting went on--mostly by one man but there were others--and as they came into the courtyard for a while--maybe 20 minutes--I felt vulnerable, pushed the heavy sleeper couch against the front door and put a chair under the window--it wouldn't have stopped anyone but it would have made noise.. Meanwhile I looked up the phone number for the police and had my phone handy.
