Unfortunately, there were afew issues regarding cleanliness. The smell of smoke in the house was overwhelming and caused us both the have physical reactions of sneezing, coughing, and sore eyes. We believe that the previous guests must have lit the fire in the living room and left the glass door to the fire open. The smell was through the whole house apart from the upstairs bedrooms. We aired the house downstairs for hours upon arrival and the next day, but the strong smell remained the whole stay (3 days). The first day was sunny, so we spent a lot of it outside, but the second amd third day it was raining. We decided to spend most of the day upstairs in the main bedroom, to get away from the smell. There was a chopping board in the drawer that was covered in mold, and the linen downstairs and various places around the house were very dusty. We told the owner about the problems, and she said that the previous guests must have had a fire. We said that the smell was overwhelming and caused us to be not well, and made it very uncomfortable to be in the downstairs of the house, and she apologised for this, amid said that she would lodge a complaint to booking. We suggested that the cleaners should have told her about the smell, and that the place was not in a habitable state. Therefore, we asked for the cleaning fee of about €100 to be reimbursed (in my opinion not a big ask under the circumstances). She said that this was "slightly extreme", and that she would ask booking for a claim. No, in other words. She also said that usually a house like this costs €300 a night (which is true) and we paid half the price, and then said that "some things are not perfect because of this" The place not being habitable is in my opinion a basic necessity. We asked if she had heard back from booking, and we still have not heard anything from her.

Some maintenance work like for blinds needs to be done in between the seasons.
