There was an infestation of cockroaches inside the apartment, which was a known issue as traps were already present. Upon contacting the agency I was told cockroaches in Tenerife are a common issue, as if that justified them being inside the apartment (cupboards, fridge/freezer, oven etc). They offered to install new traps, but I refused as they clearly don't work and I told them it needed fumigation, which after pushing they agreed to arrange, but expected me to stay there! I refused because the chemicals used are toxic and a minimum of 48 hours is required after fumigation before occupying again. No alternative accommodation offered, so I had no choice but to spend my holiday with the unwelcome guests. Totally unacceptable Also note that when departing, the keys must be taken to the Agents Office in El Medano, so a detour is required when returning to the airport. This was not mentioned when booking. In 11 years of staying in this area it has always been possible to leave the keys in the apartment, If you don't have a car, you'll need to get your taxi to take you there at your expense. A very unnecessary inconvenience to put upon guests. **Update°° As I cannot reply to the response from MEDANO4YOU I am adding a further comment. The admission that the apartment was fumigated only a month ago clearly shows that the non-toxic method they used was ineffective. As traps were also present the problem was a known one & therefore obvious the previous infestation was far from resolved. In situations such as this, the only effective solution is to use a toxic method, but this would require the apartment to be closed out for several days. That would require alternative accommodation to be provided at cost to M4U, which they would not consider. Shame on them
