RE: TV incident at a rental apartment in Madrid, booked on Booking.com and then handled by Minty Minty acted as a mediator rather than a problem solver for a TV I damaged during my stay. I rented the apartment through Booking.com. Minty is just a host company contracted by the property owner of whom I did not have any personal information, contractual agreement nor I had ever met. I reported the incident immediately on a Sunday afternoon, emailed a picture of the TV model and damage, and I asked how I could pay for the TV. I provided a few options. I was informed Minty does not take any form of payment. Then, I received a phone call from the owner demanding a wire transfer as payment for the TV. The individual was impolite to say the least, screaming over the phone, threatening to report to the police. He could not understand a wire transfer cannot be made with the information provided by Minty, and under these circumstances. Minty Quality Manager just provided an incomplete full name of the individual, a SWIFT and the amount. No home address, no bank information, no ID whatsoever. No financial institution recommends this type of payments with no specific and accurate information of the receiver. The day after the owner submitted payment options. In short, the payment of the TV was made 42 hours from the time of the incident on a Sunday afternoon. At this point I learnt… • The name of the property owner provided by Minty was incomplete; The individual has 2 last names • Minty and the owner did not provide an address linked to the SWIFT number • The name of the owner’s bank and address was not initially reported. • The account holder of the account was a different person than the one reported by Minty and the owner. • The owner never acknowledges the payment I made.
