Stunning building in an isolated spot. Fabulous interior but not many people about to ask about vespers and dining. Eventually found dinner in staff kitchen for about 6 staff and us. Nice food and a memorable stay.

The best

This is a working historic monastery. The accommodation is simple. It was very clean and everything worked. The monks have marked out good walks in the woods, along the stream and up to a view point, which we would recommend. We had the evening meal in the refectory which is a set menu at a set time made from local products and we very much enjoyed it. The host organised a walk after the meal to enjoy the stars but unfortunately it was foggy but he still made it interesting.

To be improved

If you are expecting a 4 star hotel, this is not for you but if you want an authentic catholic monastery experience you will not be disappointed.

It was very different to anywhere I have stayed before. It is basic but has everything you need. I would have liked to stay for a second night if I had the time.

The historic significance of the hotel. And the peaceful serenity. Scrumptious supper and a fantastic breakfast which was included. I was allowed to park my motorbike inside the gates near the building entrance providing extra security.

To be improved

Supper was served at 21:00 which is later than what I’m used to.

We went star gazing with him and it was the most amazing experience ever. He is marvelous as he is so knowledgeable. · Cons: 100 per cent fabulous. No negatives.”
