“Lovely hotel in a great location, but extremely noisy on the Vara de Rey side form very early in the morning.”
I stayed at this hotel as a last minute booking after a flight cancellation on a Thursday night in February. It's in a great location right in the centre of Ibiza town. The reception staff were warm and welcoming and check in was fast and easy. I paid to upgrade to a 2nd floor room on the Vara de Rey side of the hotel. The room was beautiful, with two sets of french windows opening onto balconies overlooking the Vara de Ray. Everything was clean and the bed was very comfortable. As it was February there wasn't much noise from the pedestrian area in the evening, although I know in the summer this area can be very busy until quite late at night. I would have given it 5* had it not been for the following:- 1) It's not possible to go out onto the balconies as there are bars across the doors. I realise this is a safety measure, however it also prohibits enjoying the french windows open in the afternoon/evening as the room would likely fill up with mosquitos! I'd have sat on the balcony in the evening with the doors closed behind me if that had been a possibility. 2) From around 7 am there were numerous service trucks, bin-collecting vehicles, teams with leaf blowers and high pressure water jets working out in the street at the front of the hotel and along the Vara de Rey right below the (closed) french windows. The team of workers were shouting back and forth to each other without the slightest consideration for sleeping hotel guests. This went on until 8.30. I asked at check-out if this happens every Friday morning, and the response was that it happens every day! So best to consider this when thinking of paying for an expensive upgrade to one of these rooms, as my opinion of the value of the upgrade changed during that 1.5 hours between 7.00 and 8.30 am.
“Wonderful! Perfect location, lovely staff and beautiful hotel.”
“location and outdoor breakfast.”
Stayed for 2 nights in August . A taxi can drop you right to the door and the rest of the hotel is on a beautiful tree and sculptured lined pedestrian street. We chose an upgraded room for the larger windows and a small terrace with a view. The window does open but the terrace is blocked off so you cannot stand on it. No problem though as you still have fresh air and a view. The room is decorated as per photos in quirky colour and style but very of the island. Its lovely and the room we had was very spacious with a couch and large TV. Bed was large and very comfortable. Downstairs bar/reception is small but sufficient. Roof terrace is nice with great views over the whole of the town. Seeing the planes fly close over the sea is a bonus photo opportunity. Breakfast is served in the Street area which is covered and lovely surrounded by pedestrian street and fabulous trees. Service here was quick and food was varied and hot, served from a select menu. It is a pricy hotel but the location to shops, the port and the old town means you can save on taxis.
“Two star and very misleading marketing,”
This is our first night of four, and I am feeling very disappointed. First of all, we arrived at the hotel at 5 pm and told the very young ladies at reception that we just wanted to go straight to the roof bar, which was one of the main reasons for choosing the hotel. We were told that it was definitely closed for today, because of a private function, and they thought it might be closed for the season. It is indeed closed for the season. Nobody had the courtesy to tell us. Next, we were shown to our room. I had ordered a Deluxe King. The room itself is not too bad, but our window looks on to a blank industrial wall. The hotel’s website talks wistfully about all the rooms having views of Ibiza Old Town. Next, I asked for a map of the Old Town, and was given a map with no discernible street names, and a shrug of the shoulders. Finally, we went out for dinner and came back to the hotel for a nightcap. At 10.45 we were told that the bar would be closing in five minutes. We declined and headed to bed early. I had been told that the Experimental Group was owned by a trendy cocktail company and that they produced incredible cocktails. I am not looking forward to the next three days. This a turgid mess of a hotel, with nothing going for it. Avoid! Having just stayed at the magnificent Hotel Sant Francesc in Palma, the Montesol Experimental is two star at best.
“Fabulous stay at Montesol”
We stayed at the Montesol on our way back from Formentera, it has always been a place where we wanted to try and it did not disappoint. Wow what an amazing hotel that has such great energy, architecture and hospitality. We checked in seamlessly, stayed in the superior room. We had drinks and lunch on the terrace, superb service and quality food and wine. Amazing decor, features, amenities and brilliant mini bar. The rooftop bar is absolutely incredible with stunning views of the Old Town. We will 100% be coming back.
“Great location in Ibiza town”
Stayed at Montesol for a couple of nights. Check on was smooth, however the reception area is narrow and it is just too little space. If more than one couple/group arrives at the same time, there is no area for waiting or standing in line. We ended up on the outside terrace for a glass while waiting, but you really just want to get to your room. Rooms are spacious and ok decorated. Would go for a category up from the standard as all the standard room har kind of frosted windows and you can not see through them. Not very nice not being able to see out, but the rooms have good vibes though. There is no gym. Breakfast from a small a la carte menu. There is a roof top terrace which we did not visit as there was a private event there. The location is great. Easy access to old town, shops and taxi. You will have to drive to most beach clubs anyway. Would probably go back because of the location and spacious rooms.
