Olé Backpackers Hostel

I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent stay at the hostel in Alicante. From the very beginning, the conditions were far below what I consider acceptable — even for a budget accommodation. One of the most distressing issues was the strict rule forbidding guests from opening the windows while the air conditioning was on. This rule was enforced even though the rooms were lacking fresh air, and I eventually developed a dry cough due to the poor ventilation. When I asked the staff to either turn off the air conditioning or allow me to open the window for some fresh air, they refused. Instead, they offered me a blanket — which was not a solution to the problem. Furthermore, the general cleanliness of the hostel was highly unsatisfactory. I found the toilets in an unclean state in the mornings, and the balcony was dirty. These hygiene issues made me feel very uncomfortable and unsafe during my stay. I expected basic sanitary conditions to be maintained, regardless of the price of the accommodation. I also experienced uncomfortable and intrusive behavior from the staff. Each time I entered the kitchen, I was controlled and observed. On two separate occasions, a staff member came into the kitchen to check if I was eating someone else’s food, pretending to throw something into the bin — even though there was a bin right next to him at the reception. This behavior felt suspicious and targeted, and it made me feel humiliated and unwelcome. In addition, I must stress that the hostel staff seemed to lack basic training — both in customer service and in problem resolution. They were dismissive, unempathetic, and unwilling to help when issues arose. The bed sheets were yellowish and looked unclean. The balcony was dirty and covered with a thick layer of dust. The toilets were filthy, and there was no paper to dry hands after washing. Moreover, when I entered the toilets, I even found feces on the floor.

It's too hard to recommend this place.
