“Great staff”
Marta at the front desk was incredibly welcoming and sweet. We personally messed up the days we booked and Marta helped us get it all sorted without a single stressful moment. The hotel is beautiful and historic I definitely recommend.
“Beautiful building in fabulous location; a real treat with gorgeous grounds and views.”
The location, the splendour of the beautiful building, the view, the history and size of rooms, both bedroom and generally. The food was very good (though we ate better elsewhere at times).
The welcome and information. The receptionist struggled to smile. Never once said welcome or thank you for booking with us./how was your journey. Only information available was on a printed sheet. No indication of location of swimming pool (hard to find). We had to ask twice for tea making facilities (coffee was available) in our junior suite. The building is massively historic; there are public rooms with delightful areas to sit but there were no coffee table books specifically ones providing the Parador building through the ages. I asked about this at reception and was given a badly translated, four page printed sheet........ On checking out, although this person was more smiley, he didn't ask if our stay had gone well/had everything been ok. Didn't thank us for staying or wish us a pleasant journey. These things seem small but compared to the three other places we stayed, they were lacking and this cost a lot of money (to us). It seems the Paradors attract people for whom it isn't special it's just the norm which is sad.
“Great accommodations made better by a friendly staff and comfortable rooms in a great location.”
Excellence in everything, from location to how the staff treated us. Very clean, great views, and extremely roomy and comfortable.
““OK but not great””
Some Paradors are housed in buildings where the public and private rooms reflect their histories. In others, as was the case of the Parador de Baiona, the buildings themselves are not historic but are the hotel is housed in relative modern buildings. The Parador is situated on its own peninsula, surrounded by fortress ramparts with stunning sea views. The large hotel, 120+ bedrooms, is housed in a rambling building, the walk to our bedroom took a few minutes but it is spacious. Overall, the interior of the Parador felt dated. However, it is well maintained and appeared clean. Our bedroom was of a reasonable size and had a good view of the Atlantic and coastline. A walk to the centre of town takes about 30 minutes. Car parking, although free, can be a hassle especially at the weekend. Checking into reception was very, very slow. The dinner service on most nights seemed to be having difficulty keeping up with demand. Unlike other Paradors that we have stayed in, it felt busy with guests everywhere and on occasions noisy. Lastly, there was a disconnect between the coast of our stay and the overall quality. In other words, it is overpriced and lets the Parador brand down.
“Historical treasure in need of cosmetic updates.”
We routinely stay at paradores in Spain an immersive historical experience, so would recommend the experience to anyone. This parador is no exception. Hopefully they can secure funding for cosmetic updates like new rugs, refinished furniture, and more comfortable mattresses.
“Stunning Parador in an equally stunning setting.”
Your arrival through 2 of the old fortress gates gives an idea of what is to come. The Parador itself, although a relatively recent building gives a fantastic nod to the history of the area. All the staff were friendly & helpful & the meal we had in the restaurant was superb, I had been a bit apprehensive after some of the reviews, but no need to worry at all. Great to see a separate shower in the room as well just a shame we didn’t have a sea view.
